    1. Stand tall to hit the ball better (tip from Dad in 2008)

    2.  Dollar Bill Drill in the bunker (tip from an elderly gentleman at Adm Baker - put the ball slightly rear of center on a dollar bill and hit under the bill)

    3.  Palm up - palm down drill (hold left hand for righties at shoulder level and rotate arm; then integrate this motion in golf swing) - from allexperts.com

    4.  Athletically ready stance - another volunteer from allexperts.com

    5.  "In da mitt and tru da tree" (Don Trahan the Swing Surgeon) - got away from the rotational swing (wrong type of swing for a tall person IMHO).

    6.   The recent tip in Golf Digest about holding your rear arm against your torso and trying to touch your shoulder - if you can't use an upright 2 plane swing; if you can touch behind your shoulder- rotational swing.

    7. "the reason people slice is they try to swing too hard" (Paul Wilson of Revolution Golf)

    8.  Articles from Dave Pelz about distance control (choking down and backswing length) - improved short game immensely and learned better how to work other clubs.

    9.  Listen for the ball to drop on short putts (if you look at the hole when putting you tend to yank it).

Recent Pelz's/Golf Digest - set your lead hand weaker on a bunker shot.  This will keep the blade open on rotation through the swing.  A normal or strong grip will decrease loft during swing, close the face to reduce the use of the bounce, and increase potential to blade the shot.

  3. An old TV tip from Lee Trevino regarding long fairway bunker shots.

Take one more club than you normally would use for that distance. So, if your ball was in the fairway & you'd normally hit a 9 iron you'd use an 8 iron from the fairway bunker. Choke down a bit, dig your feet in firm but keep your lower body quiet and swing only with your arms. Hit the ball first and try to pick it clean off the sand. The distance can be tweaked with how far you choke down on the club, 1/2" or 1", etc.

I've tried it and the results have been ok but I know I don't practice this shot enough.

On Golf Channel.  When hitting out of a green side bunker, put your weight on your left side to the point where you can lift your right leg.  Bunker play instantly improved.  (For the right handed player)

Gary Knapp formerly at Lake Las Vegas.  Practice hitting balls with your butt against your bag.  Keep it there!

I think I saw that one maybe.... LT.  That same tip also works for pitching from a severe downhill lie.

Focus on the front of the ball, the side facing the target, throughout the swing, helped me tremendously with my ball striking.

Don't think too much. Remember the game is suppose to be fun, not work. (My Dad, 1970)

Along those lines.... don't take the game too seriously.  When you get a bit pee'd your game goes down the toilet and you make an *** out of yourself.

There is always the old classic "let the club do the work"

"Imagine a pole that runs down your head, through your spine and into the ground...now rotate around that pole"

"half as hard, twice as far" (my old man when I was just learning how to play at age 12)

One of the best tips I got was keep your eyes at the same relative position to the ground through your swing

    1. I tell this one to my buddies - the less power I swing with the more distance and accuracy I have
    2. Athletically ready stance (nose over knees over toes)
    3. Concentrate on the ball through the entire swing and keep your head down
These 3 seem basic, but really helped me improve and I finally cracked 100 this summer with just these fundamentals!

On the first point, when I start feeling like I'm trying to swing out of my shoes I always go back to something I heard somewhere (I wish I could remember who said this but working in golf, I hear a lot of these little quick tips):

Effortless Power is always better than Powerless Effort

Or, you could do just the opposite (this is a joke).

    1.  Grip it and Rip it!

    2. Clear the hips and boom it!

    3.  I didn't come all the way to "wherever you are" lay up!

    4. If you swing hard enough the Centrifugal force will create a tornado!

One of the best tips I've ever heard was to put a cardboard box, like the ones that golf clubs come in, next to the ball facing the target. The key is to not hit the box. It forces you to come from the inside, not over the top. See how close you can put the box to the ball and still maintain solid ball striking.

I've never received this tip, but I thought I would give it:

Don't ask what shaft you should buy on an internet forum.  Go get fit...with a real person - preferably a PGA certified pro.
