So i work at a local golf course that just held a county am. One of the players in the last teir, scratch plays to 5 handicap, approched me and i talked with him for a while. I asked him whats the best advice to shoot good when playing bad, he told me ball position. Its all in the adress. As long as you hit pretty consistantly stright for the most part find, on the day you are playing where your ball position is. I played a round and could not hit my driver or woods right, moved it about half a ball in my stance and stright shots all day. Basicly if you hit the ball relitivly stright and are fighting a hook or slice, move the ball arround a bit and find the "spot of the day".

In response to your post (Mannequin), the best tips i've recieved regarding ball position was from my twin brother who is off scratch. I had just gone back up from plus 1 to scratch, playing quite poorly when he reminded me of a simply tip that I had learnt when starting this game. With the Driver for the ball to be positioned (for a right hander) pointing at your shoulder, with a 5-iron for it to be positioned pointing at your left ear, for a sand wedge to be positioned pointing at your left eye and for your putter, the ball to be positioned pointing at your nose. I would have someone looking directly opposite me to check that all of these positions are correct whist practicing on the range and just try to get a feel for each ball position with each club before going out on the course and playing a round. This is the best tip I have recieved in the last year.

I've been a ball position tweaker my whole life. Works for me.

A recent tip I heard from Nick Faldo on TV when Brian Davis kept hitting great sand shots. He compared the feeling in the right hand (for a rightie) to the feeling in ping-pong when you put underspin on the ball.

I've practising it for a couple of weeks and the ball is coming out much higher and not rolling out as much.

    Thanks, Sir Nick!
