    Hi there,¨

I'M A 14 year old boy, I've been playing for only two months and have done two competitions and now my handicap is at 27.5 but i think will go down quite fast.

So I played on my local golf course and I only used my 3 wood because i couldn't hit my driver to be honest I can't hit with my driver. My 3 wood hits were long  (218 yards) and straight so I preferred not take the driver. But for some holes I need a bit more distance and that's were I lose a lot of points.

When I hit my driver or I hit it under the ball or over and when I hit it some what correctly it hooks or slice and doesn't go that far.

Any tips will be deepily considered-

Try teeing the ball a bit lower if you are having troble and also if you are slice / hooking aim to the left / right so you have some room to let the ball come back.

I also try to use my 3wood or 5 iron for control aswell also try to position yourself so you know what you are trying to hit to a tree brance or something

    Hope this helps

  3. I can identify with your problem.

I am 16 and play off 8 but only last year played off 24 with a massive slice. I found aiming to the left to compensate only exagerated the problem.

So instead i aimed dead straight, picked out a target in the distance such as a branch on a tree and ensured my shoulder, feet alignemnt was right. Then just trust your swing and see the ball fly straight and long.

    Good Luck

If your hooking it your trying to swing hard at it to create distance just swing in good tempo and the ball will go where it needs to.. and if your slicing you most likely arent turning your wrists over quick enough it feels funny to get used to but it will help.

    Hey sas,

Your hcp will not go down if you put the driver in the bag before you learn to hit it.

So its good that you leave it out of the bag.

It doesn't matter if you can't reach a par 4 in 2. It would be better to reach in 3, than be hitting 3 off the tee, or 3 from behind the water hazard.

Concentrate your practice on putting, greenside wedges, and partial swing wedges.  This will bring your score down fast.

Course management: Your first lesson, KNOW your game, KNOW what you can do what you can't do, KNOW your mistakes.

Now apply it to the course, for example you look at the tee shot, your most common mistake with 3 wood would put you in the water........don't use 3 wood (right now your most common mistake will be your most common result), lay up it doesn't matter if you can't reach in regulation because you have been practicing putting, greenside wedges, and partial swing wedges.

Par 5's, the most misplayed holes on the course. If you're playing the correct tees, you should be able to reach the green in 3 shots using your 150yd club.

Course management will bring you scores down fast too.

Fist advice is from my teacher. take lessons hahaahahah. but seriously good lessongs will help far better than trying to correct it your self. but if you insist on trying to fix your diver heres a few tips from a guy that had the same problems as you when i was your age.  number one dont swing out of your shoes. i ruins your ability to hit the ball consitantly and accurtly. i drive between 290 and 310. im known as the guy that swings hard but it only looks like i swing hard.  first thing is youtube this video. Jim mclean 8 step swing. that wll give you your basic swing for all your clubs. its all the same swing. now then like most people even tour pros you'll take your diver back alitte further than your irons. its ok aslong as your not over extending. when you practice your rotation and back swing only rotate untill you feel your body getting tight. dont force your self to over rotate. only turn to you feel a natural stoping point. slower is better but not super slow if  you know what i mean. this is to build stability in your back swing. now picture your standing in a box so your not swaying back and forth. there is a diffence in shifting weight and actually swaying.  now once you found your rotation for a back swing. when you start your down swing keep those tips from that video in minds especialy the part about the club being back to parallel. as your moving from the top of yoru swing to parallel. think of your pulling the club as you rotate the shoulders. once you get to parrallel thats when you start to rotate your hands. trust me when i say most of your power comes from this point. but dont get hung up on trying to muscle your wrist. just rotate them smothly in time this will naturly generate the power. Agine let it be natural not muscled or forced. not only with doing this relaxed generate more club head speed but will improve your stikeing.  now the most comon problem is at the impact point. most people stopp swinging. even though the club keeps moving they stoped. keep rotateing your sholders. all you need to do is rotate your sholders thats the key to big power is you continuing to rotate. arm strength means nothing.  So.  on the down swing. remember bicep pin to your chest. you've her the holding the towel thing same concept. so with the arm pin. rotate. feel as though your pulling the club threw the swing plane. at parrallel start your wrist rotation. at impact keep rotateing the sholders. keep a strong fallow threw and fininsh like some one is takeing your picture. now then a few small tips to help. keep a relaxed grip dont squeze the club. heavy empheses on relaxed hands. keep your eye on the ball. swing relaxed. for ball placement  either tee the ball equal with your inside of your front heal or one ball back from this position. tee height should bee. the top of the club should be at the middle of the ball. to hithe ball lower tee it down. I hope this helps but you'll have to hit atleast 2 large buckets to get this swing down. but you'll find it works.  as far as aiming goes stand be hind the ball. point you club were you want the ball to go look about 2 foot or so in front of a ball and find something like a ball mark or odd patch of grass thats in this line and use that as your focuse for your set up.  for more quistions hit me up on this forum. but over all.

The best advice is to take lessons. if you cant i hope this helps.
