Just a word of caution on trying to learn this shot. Be sure a quality instructor is assisting. I too was anxious to get this ball flight three years ago, thinking it would match up with my primary golf course better than my draw off the tee. What I got for my efforts was tendonitis in my right elbow from an unintentional change to a too strong of grip when trying for a swing plane more to the outside. After half a season playing with pain even when wearing forearm or elbow braces, it took three months in physical therapy over the off season to get the elbow back to normal. My therapist was great and beautiful as well and she had me spending allot of time on a cable and pully weight machine with a golf grip on the cable. The machine was aligned so I could pull weights as if starting my swing up to the top on plane, and back to address position slowly.
I'm sure you can learn the high cut, but I wouldn't take any advice on changing your ball flight from just anyone, and certainly not from your #1 rival like I did,

I hope the elbow is coming along OK. Keep up the therapy. How many times have you heard the saying,"See your PGA Professional"?...lol You are correct in saying not to seek advise from your rival. Not that difficult a shot to learn, I think the grip change did you in.
Keep workin' on the elbow
