Playing for several years now, i've learned real quick that swinging hard isn't the secret to hitting far and it sure wont help on solid striking, and... no solid strikeing = no accuracy.... My best rounds have come when my whole body is in perfect tempo and to have more of these great tempo rounds ive figured out this piece of cake 5 minute drill that works miracles.
At the range take your 100 yard club ( lob or sand wedge) and set up like you normally would for a full shot. Here's the drill..... grip the club just tight enough to keep it from flying from your hands and very very slowly take your club to the top of your swing ( keep your eye on the ball ), pause for a second or so and (keeping your head down on the ball the whole time) very softly swing through the ball and finish like a normal full swing......the resulting shot will be a soft very clean feeling hit that should go no further than 30 yards......
Essentially your taking a full swing over the course of about 4-5 seconds and only hitting the ball about 20 yards......from start to finish of this little drill you will see a difference in pure contact and straightness...... after 3 or 4 minutes of this drill start moving out to 50-60-70 yards ect.... until you hit it the full distance.
This drill naturally shows your body what a good tempo feels like.
You will notice a diffence in your contact and accuracy and even in distance, this drill has done wonders for me and my team and hope it can help somebody else out there.
