I played at a JuCo then an NAIA school.    The most important thing is your grades, do the best you can.  They will always pick a kid with better grades because that student will get other monies for academics.

Then get your game in order, learn to putt and chip.  And enjoy the game.

Very nice!  I played at SMU for Hank Haney, 95-97.

College golf coaches look at national tournament results first.  Playing in the US Junior, Amateur, AJGA and other national events is a priority.  Then focusing on your local state like the State Open, State Am, State Junior.  Once you post results, colleges will be looking for you, not the other way around. During the school season, there are a few Junior Tours that host events on the weekends.  The more experience you have, the better.

Second priority is a high SAT score.  That can open the doors at Ivy League, Air Force/Army/Navy Academy, etc.

Third priority would be possible Student Council, or some sort of leadership position.

Forth priority is to find a TPI Certified pro in your area to start training like an athlete.  Check http://mytpi.com/find

    Good luck!

Thanks a lot. When should I begin AJGA tournaments I shoot consistent 70's accept for the occasional bad days. Since I live in the midwest there are not as many AJGA tournaments as there would be in Florida, Texas, and California. I recently have been playing in some MAJGT tournaments(Mid-America Junior Golf Tour). Is there an advantage to starting at a certain age?

Definite advantage to playing as many sports, and as many golf tournaments as possible.  You need to learn to compete at all levels.

Ditto to what Ryan Crysler said. The "bigger" meaning more national the tournament the better. The US Junior is your biggest tournament. All the college coaches are there. Get on the coaches radar asap. Send resume's and letters. Be involved and show that your a good teamate and a value to his team.
