For some reason, I cannot seem to hit the ball of the tee at all. I found one fairway on the course last round, I often miss par 3 greens and a lot of the time scuff shots that bobble off along the grass in front of me. However I can hit shots off the fairway well, I can play wedge's well and I can putt well...

If anyone could give me any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Hey Dan,

In my opinion I think it's impossible for someone to give you advice on this forum without seeing you swing.

The only thought I have on this is, if you can hit shots from the fairway well, it should be easier when you're on the tee, for one because you can tee the ball up and have a perfect lie.

I would find a local PGA pro and take a series of lessons - a good instructor should be able to get you on track.

    Best of luck,

    Jason

Sounds as if you need a couch and someone to listen to you as you empty your mind of all the junk whirling around. Don't tee up the ball think as if you are hitting off the fairway , use a hybrid or 3 wood. Relax!

I agree that it is hard to give advice about your swing without seeing you swing, However the best advice that helped me not top the ball and get those dribblers was to keep my head down and keep my eyes on the ball. Good luck.

I also agree that you cant make a solid suggestion without seeing a video or even photos of your swing. Maybe put 3 or 4 pictures of setup, top of the backswing, down swing on?

Dan, If you haven't been properly fit for a driver I would recommend that first. Also, dont put so much effort and importance on your tee ball. Every shot counts the same. A good swing should produce a good shot with every club. However if you "try" harder on one shot more than another it will affect your swing. Another great tip is to play the hole in your head first before you tee off. Picture how you want your tee shot to look like; direction, height, and shape. Play out the hole all the way to your last putt. This will give you a positive picture in your head of what you want to do. Then you just have to play the hole the way you planned. Good luck.

I don't like hitting driver either, and I was fitted for my 910 D3.  I hit it better than any other driver I've had, but it seems like Driver is the only club in my bag that costs me some shots every round.  I don't blame the club, I've just never been good off the tee and I don't have a lot of confidence in my driving ability.

My drive misses are a slice (rarely slice any other clubs) or a high fly ball to center field /a line drive just over second base (maybe I have it teed up in the wrong spot, there's no grass ranges out here so it's tough to practice)

If I can hit my 3 wood off the tee and end up with a 5 iron or less for my approach I will, and I never tee the 3 wood up.

When I have to hit driver the less distance I try for the further I hit it.  I think, 75% and keep my eye right on the T in Titleist.  I would say I'm about 2 out of 3 with the big stick.

If you find something that really works for you let me know. I need help too

I think it is hard to hit a driver off a tee because mental blocks or swing thought is to sweep the ball and when the ball is up in the air rather than sitting on a glass makes it harder to convince yourself you can hit a good shot. This goes the same with fairway wood with a ball teed up from a ground. I have a similar feeling when my tee shot with 3 or 5 wood when ball is teed about ½” from the ground. I know air offers less resistance than dirt but hitting it solid with no tee is much better than poor shot with the tee. I am fairly consistent with fairway wood from the fairways but I struggle when I use wood for my tee shot. There is something about that ball sitting higher and trying to hit it on upswing causes my swing to wild.

I used to have the same feeling with my driver but was able to overcome by not thinking about trying to hit it on upswing. Now, I tee the ball about the same height as driver face depth and ball is in line with my left armpit. Once setup is done, I move my driver head about 3 inches towards my right foot which is about the lowest point of my swing. From there, I swing and my only swing thought is to pick the wooden tee head with my driver which results consistent center face contact and I am not breaking my tee off. Previously, I needed 10 to 15 wooden tees per round since I break on every single driver shot. My swing is still the same as before but setup and swing thoughts are different.

Better players have this kind of feeling with their iron if it has too much of offset. When you setup your swing with a game improvement iron which has greater offset built in and when you look down, it just does not suit your eyes. Even though, offset will help trapping the ball since the head will follow the shaft but when you are not comfortable, you just can hit a good shot. Get comfortable with your driver setup. You can’t hit a solid shot if your mind is telling you otherwise. Even with professional golfing world, I think this happens when shot they need to hit does not fit their eyes and a great player will commit to the shot and pull it off.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I too used to have trouble hitting my driver and I would even hit my 3 iron off of the tee instead if I could, but one thing that really helped me fix my slice on the drive is to focus on swinging through the ball. When I used to try to hit a long drive I would swing harder and cause myself to pull off the ball at impact and cause a swing that was outside to inside. This only happened with the driver, but once I began to focus on a club head path that was straight through the ball I began hitting the ball straight and now my drives are the best part about my game.

Just focus on your club's path and try to overexaggerate it going through the ball and hopefully it helps you as it helped me.

    Good Luck!
