Just curious if anyone has run into this before...My iron shots (7-SW) are starting out on line and then bending from right to left about 4-8 yards off the target line.  It is quite annoying to say the least.  It is not happening with my 3-6.  All the irons (735.CM) have DG S300 shafts, so the flex is consistent.  My wedges (48 and 54) are Vokey spin milled.  I usually generate above average spin with these clubs.  It has not been a problem in the past, but only recently.

My suspicion is that the problem is now between my ears, but I suspect is might be ball position or too early of a weight shift from my right side to the left.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Late/no  weight shift could cause hooking. Early/too much weight shift causes the ball to go right

    ball too far forward

left shoulder down....usually occurs when trying extra to hit down on the ball

Could be a simple lie adjustment as well.  Check them all!  RC

At the end of the day, it is all about how your strikeing the ball. If your clubface isnt square on impact. you can lose control on where your shots are going

    Todd,

Ball flight is all about the relationship between club face and path.  A ball that starts on line is because you club face is pointing at your intended target line, but the hook is because you path is inside to out of your club-face.  You could either shift your alignments to the right, make the same swing and it would be a push draw...You could also work on your not being as much to the outside.

Lie angle is also a VERY BIG DEAL with short irons.  Most tour player keep their wedges(more specifically their sw and lw) 1-3 degrees flatter than the rest of there set.  The worst thing that can happen on a short iron or wedge is to make a good swing and have the heel grab an hook it.

I would see a club fitting specialist whom has a lie/loft machine so he could check your lie angles.  Take the guessing out of the process and get back to playing tension free golf!

The path the ball starts out on is the path of the club head, and the right/left part is the club head at impact. Id check your hands/grip since the hands control the clubhead.

Your club shafts are to stiff.  if you think the are the same you are dead wrong.  Put them on an frequency machine and I will bet you there will be at least 20 cycles difference between your 7 iron and SW.  My stock shafts in my AP2'S the 5 iron was 306 which is x flex all the way to 328 in my PW wedge which is about 8 times x flex which caused me to hit very solid shots that always seemed to  pull left.  I have finally re-shafted with frequency matched shafts and that has corrected my issue 100% and my shot dispersion is 1000 times tighter.

I just met up with Kevin L. at the local course after I just bought my new irons.  I had a similar problem, my 7-PW iron shots were going straight left.  We put them on the loft and lie machine, bent them 1* flat, tried em out on the range and hit each one dead straight.  A simple adjustment might be all you need.

Had the same problem myself, worked out that my set up was'nt correct. So went back to basics and shifted the ball back in my stance to the correct position and fixed it straight away. but in the end it all comes down tto your connection with the ball. Crisp and clean.............
