It’s long been a dream and the magic of hearing the stories from others who’ve been lucky to do so help make it that way.

Upon playing the Cowdenbeath golf course while taking a break from St Andrews Open marshal duties. I’d booked a game with two friends.

Recent good form and handicap cuts meant I was feeling really good about playing and never more so that when the dream was realised on the 13th hole, par 3 at 192 yards.

I selected my 6 iron from the bag being first on the tee. Struck it so sweetly that it bounced short and forward with eyes only for the flag itself.

We could not be sure but my playing partners thought it was in as it had not reappeared into view. I wasn’t celebrating that easily as the hole was just out of sight.

It was only when we reached the green and found my partners balls and with mine nowhere else to be seen that I checked the hole itself.

Wow, it was in and I’d done it. What a special feeling and a memorable moment to treasure
