It was a hot June afternoon and I had completely misread the green on the prior hole. Frustrated, I wanted to move forward with the game, and was the first in my foursome to hit the ball on the 12th hole of the South Course at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD. The ball had nice loft and landed on the green, which had a body of water in front and bunkers on either side. It was a downhill slope with 170 yards to the flag which was placed to the right side of the green. The ball continued to roll to the right toward the flag -- and it never stopped rolling until it went into the hole. Surprised -- yes, we were all surprised. Even more surprised to learn that it was a prize hole, and I won a new car!
