Davis Golf Course in Davis, CA
Hole 7, 121 yds, Par 3
March 22, 2024
This hole is known to my friends and I as the "Island Hole" because you have to shoot over a water hazard, which wraps around the green from all sides except the back. I teed my ball up as low as I could and shot an 8-iron. I'm a fairly new golfer, and often miss the green entirely, having to take a drop. The flag was on the backside of the green, sloping up away from the tee box. I thought I over-shot it, and remember saying "dang, that's over". My friend told me "i'm pretty sure that's right at the pin". We watched it take 2 bounces and roll back into the hole, and proceeded to lose our minds. It was a great moment.
The night before, I learned that my great-grandmother Bina passed away at the age of 100. She was an avid golfer along with my great grandfather late into their life. I sat in the golf cart for a few minutes after, waiting for my friends to finish teeing off, and felt a bit overwhelmed with emotion. I know she was with me in that moment, and gave me a little bit of magic on that swing.
Love you grandma, that one was all you!
