    Hi TT
I don't know about you, but I absolutely love it when Golf becomes a "team" sport.  These rare opportunities when competitors become teammates and sponsor logos give way to patriotism really bring out the story lines that makes our game that much more enticing to watch.  That said, as an American, I just can't view the Presidents Cup on the same level as the Ryder Cup, and I'm not sure why.  Scotty Cameron always releases a Ryder Cup head cover, and we usually have Ryder Cup parties, but for the President's cup, I usually watch some coverage and call it a day.

Both are played in amazing venues, both are loaded with top talent, and both have the same team/camaraderie aspect.  Maybe it's because the Ryder Cup has more history and possibly more competition.  Who can forget Leonard's putt in 99, or Hunter's stubbed chip in 2010?  We all know Fowler had a fan following before his 2010 Ryder Cup, but his finish catapulted him into all the 'important' discussions.  Maybe it's because the Americans seem to dominate the President's Cup, but

    interested to read your sentiments.

    For me the

I'm with you, the Ryder Cup is more enjoyable to watch.  Presidents Cup just doesn't have that feel.

But I really enjoy team sports especially when it comes to golf.  I love watching the guys fool around during the practice round and just having a good time.   All the high 5s, screaming and hollering, it's a lot of fun to watch...  Would love to attend one of those events one day.  Can't imagine what the atmosphere is like....

    GO USA!

Unfortunately I would have to say I feel the same as you.  I don't know why, but the President's Cup just doesn't excite me like the Ryder Cup.  Obviously the Ryder Cup has a much richer history, but I think there are things the President's Cup could do to close the gap.  For one they could pick better venues.  Currently they are at very good venues.  The Ryder Cup can get away with playing anywhere, but I think the President's Cup needs to be at great venues.  One of the other issues, probably half the International team are names the average golf fan has never heard of.  Not much you can do about it, but that's just the reality.  Lastly, the European team seems to be more of a "team."  I think this makes it more interesting and gives you something to root against.  The Internationals don't have a player like Poutler to get both sides fired up.

With all of that said, I'm not sure the best way to fix it, but with some creative thinking, I think it can happen.  I don't think it'll ever be on the same level as the Ryder Cup, but I think it can get close.

Gotta go with Ryder Cup. Its been around much longer and is such a thrilling event to watch. I absolutely love watching them both because the players aren't playing for themselves but for their team and conutry.

I think right now that the President's Cup is a bit behind the Ryder Cup, but I also think that once the "Rest of the World" team starts winning on a consistent basis it will start to elevate towards the same status.  Looking at the two teams this year, I think the US team is going to need to fight harder than ever for the win against the "Rest of the World".

When you look back on the Ryder Cups from the past (60s, 70s and 80s), they weren't the adrenaline fed intense events that they are today.  They were good events and there was always lots of partisan cheering and all, but it was pretty much the same outcome every time, the Euros would do well on days one & two and the US would storm back to win by taking the majority of the individual matches on day three.  When the Euros started turning the tables on us and started winning, and winning on our turf, it really amped the event up to what it is today.  There is nothing like a good rivalry in sports and right now there is no greater rivalry than the US and Euros in the Ryder Cup.

    GO Team USA!!!!

I thought of a couple of more ways the President's Cup could have improved this year.  First, why are they starting at 10:30 EST?  That was 11:30 local time.  Why not move the tee times up 2 hours?  9:30 local time is not too early and that would be prime-time golf in the US.  Second, all of the South Korean players should have been out there on day one.  It would have helped the "story" and it certainly couldn't have hurt the score.

Say what you will, overall I think this years Presidents Cup ended up being pretty darn good.  The International team certainly didn't lay down and quit after day one and did a good job of fighting back and could easily have won on the final day.  I hope that this is a glimpse of what is to come in the future for this event.

I agree, the Presidents Cup definitely didn't disappoint.   Both teams played very well and it was a lot of fun to watch...

As a certified Golf Nut, I can tell you I do not get into the Presidents Cup at all.  I enjoy watching it about as much as a regular PGA event.  Maybe this year was less exciting because it was on at night, but it didnt have the excitement of a Major.  The Ryder Cup to me is the biggest golf event of all time.  The Majors are a close 2nd.  I love the team aspect of the Ryder Cup, and nothing makes you feel better than seeing your side spraying champagne after a hard fought battle.

The Ryder Cup is more relevant because we can't win it. And it isn't because the Euro's are better players. They are just better during the Ryder Cup.

This is what I was going to add. I enjoy watching both as I too love the team aspect of it, but he Ryder Cup definitely is more enjoyable for me. I truly believe that reason is because we can't seem to win it on the US side. It makes you root harder and a win would mean more if we finally do take them down.

I've enjoyed the watching the President's Cup this year and this time I've spent more time watching it more than any other year. I love that they've created an international golf event like the Ryder Cup for everyone else in the world to participate in the games and have the like competitiveness, camaraderie, and pride of it all for golf. I believe the international team is as important as the European Team for that matter, and I am very glad to see this happening. Nevertheless, The Ryder Cup has been long and far been much more special to me mostly because of the things that you and many others had mentioned. I can't wait for it to here. For now, as the President's Cup fills the gap for the long wait for the Ryder Cup biannual, but I think this year, the President's Cup became more interesting than the past.

The thing about the Ryder cup is this. The original European team consisted of players from Great Briton and Ireland only. The U.S. won 18 of the first 22 Ryder Cups and it became like "Oh, here we go again". Then in 1979 ALL Europeans were allowed in and then the likes of Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer showed up and leveled the playing field for Europe. The results since '79, Europe-8, U.S.-7 and 1 tie. In my opinion the International Presidents Cup team is not as deep in talent as the European Ryder Cup team whereas the U.S Presidents cup team is every bit as good as the U.S. Ryder Cup team. There's the difference in viewing interest in the 2 events. By the way, I enjoyed watching both events equally as well.

They are both great events to watch, seeing USA face other countries and continents is awesome. But I believe that the Ryder Cup is hands down the better one out of the 2.

Two major distinctions between the Ryder and the Presidents are the history and the team structure.

The Ryder Cup has the feel of historical relevance. It'll most likely always hold this over the President's Cup.

But one aspect that gets overlooked is the fact that "Europe" promotes much more of a homogeneous team atmosphere, rather than "The Rest of the World", in the case of the President's Cup. In the Ryder Cup, it's clear who we're trying to beat. You can sit in a bar, have a few, and talk about how much you hope we beat "those Europeans." Doesn't quite work the same way with "those guys from everywhere else."

Ryder cup wins for sure. The atmosphere, the history, the unity. President's cup is simply a tease for me, although also enjoyable to watch.

I watch both with equal enthusiasm for a USA win but the Ryder Cup is more compelling to me.  The lopsided record in the President's Cup takes some of the air out for me.  Also, I'm happy to see the sportsmanship in both matches but the Ryder Cup has an edge to it that the President's Cup lacks.

All that being said, I will watch every minute of coverage for both.

The Ryder Cup is an amazing event. It knocks the Presidents Cup into a cocked hat.  In fact I'd be tempted to say that it's probably m favourite sporting event

    Hi,

I would have to say that the Ryder Cup has the upper hand at the moment. The President's Cup just dose not have the atmosphere of the Ryder Cup. But you have to remember that the President's Cup is a very young competition in relation to the Ryder Cup, you are going to need the International team to start winning to create that atmosphere that this event needs. If you remember the Ryder Cup lost everything  atmosphere, spectators, sponsor etc for the best part of 20 year's till the Europeans started to compete against the Americans in the mid 80's. The President's Cup has the potential to be a great event.

I prefer Ryder cup over presidents. I wish there was a way they could put a true international event together that doesnt exclude any countries, but I guess that's why we have the Olympics.
