Jordan doesn't seem to switch out to new clubs easily. I suspect his attitude is that if it's not broke, don't fix it. Given the way he's been playing, why switch.

It's a little intriguing. Assume he just ins't comfortable with the performance. Clearly the 915's are working and he isn't going to fix what isn't broken.

I do wonder about the specific reasons though....is it spin, launch, ability to work it...as a gear nut it certainly gives you things to ponder.

The biggest question I have on staffers equipment is why JT uses both SM5 and SM6 wedges? 52* & 56* SM5 with a 60* SM6. I'm perplexed on this one.

If it's not broke don't fix it

First and foremost, PGA Tour members are much more accurate ball strikers than us mere mortals. Gaining forgiveness is not a huge plus for them. If they do switch equipment, it would be during a down period/off season for them. How often do you see a pro switch OEMs and then have a down year after that? If your current edition clubs work and you don't *need* the latest, then you may be like him.

But to a point most of the guys have switched expect for Jordan (915) and Rafa Cabrera Bello (913!)

And me... still playing 913 D3 because it works for me. Trackman didn't give me better numbers on 915 or 917 on Titleist fitting days.

I suspect that in Jordan's case it is simply that he is probably most comfortable with the 915 set up.

He has been focusing on incorporating the 716 AP2's and the SM6 wedges. That in itself is plenty to change.

Remember, he was slower to incorporate the 716 irons over the 714's. Plus he "recently" introduced the 716 T-MB replacing his 712 iron.

Driving the ball does not seem to be Jordan's major strength (SG off the tee) ... as he has been working hard on his irons/wedges, as evidenced by his huge improvement (SG - approaches & proximity to hole).

People can only process so many changes at any given time. Just look at Lydia Ko and the huge transition that she has had this past year.

They don't all jump on new equipment. Stricker gamed a 909 until it cracked and had to go to a 913. Still games his putter that dates back to the last century. I think he is still on a 913 or 915 driver. Webb Simpson used 695 irons until about 3 years ago. I still see a lot of Eye Two's in use by mere mortals. I only get new clubs because I keep working with trainers and instructors and my swing keeps changing. Stricker found his swing in 2004-2006 and it hasn't changed.

Good question. This isn't something new. Jordan went from a 910 driver to a 915. I would expect to see the same in the future. Also, with 3-wood being such a "personal" club, meaning a club you have to have a lot of confidence in, changing 3-woods loses the confidence you currently have. I don't change my clubs out to often my self(except if I am not putting well). If you're playing well, keep going with what you got. Have a great rest of your season.

Mark Calcaveccia still uses png Eye 2 Irons and wedges. Corey Pavin still uses Bullseye putter (For you younger guys, that was Titleist's original putter. I still have one in the garage.)

I think you will find that it just isn't Jordan Speith who doesn't change to new club models every year. Steve Stricker is still using 710 AP2 irons and a 913 D3 driver. I know of a player on the senior tour that is still using a 910 driver. I'm sure that there are many more that don't change every two years. There may be slight improvements in club heads every two years . And if so , other than forgiveness, the pros would surely benefit from the improvements more than us beaters.

Tour players have been known to be a little superstitious. They don't just throw the new stuff in the bag as soon as it comes out. I'm sure he's tested endlessly......

First of all, no one can say why Jordan does anything except the man himself. Secondly, we all know Titleist is the best brand in the business. So...whatever works, right? I went to TPI for a tour fitting for the 917 metals. I preferred the 915's like Jordan. We all have to know what works for each of us. JT uses the new 917 metals. Others don't. By the way, I'm always of the mindset that I always want the new toys. But, until we are professionally fitted by Titleist, we won't know. Look at his putter...had it since college

The answer is easy, don't understand why no one has mentioned it, he's saving up to get the new ones!

If I remember correctly, He used a 910 until the 915 came out. He had a hard time getting used to it and continued with the 910 for a bit. I remember asking myself why He was using the 910 well after the 913 was on the market at the time. He had a bit of a time most of the first half of the season He switched to the 716's too. I can understand how it could take a bit... New profile, ball flight, distance variances, draw and fade characteristics.... Lots of range time...

Question about the pros who use the same model clubs for years. I would assume because their clubs get much more use they would see a degradation to the club face over time. Do they simply have a bunch of different sets of their clubs when they wear out or can the club faces be refurbished?

We spoke to several people regarding your question and here was their answer:

At Titleist our goal is to have our tour ambassadors play their best golf, and we do our best to provide them with equipment and fitting expertise that gives them the confidence that they have the best equipment for their game. As any golfer knows, there is a big mental component to the game and our tour ambassadors just like amateur golfers at times, find a product that really gives them confidence, and occasionally it can be challenging, even with launch monitor data to convince a tour pro that a change in equipment will help them.

Another factor is how that tour pro is playing at the moment, in the case of Jordan Spieth each time he was about to test 917 driver he won a tournament. He won in Australia this winter going into the week he planned to test, and then again at Pebble Beach this spring just prior to when we expected to work with him at Riviera. Again, we planned to work with him at Firestone, and he won the Open Championship.

Overall, we know the equipment we are producing is better than prior generation products and we've validated that with robot, player, and tour testing and that is why that overwhelmingly our tour pros generally do play the latest generation product. But exceptions do happen.

I wouldn't just assume he doesn't LIKE the 917's. He may have a driver in his hands is is really confident with. For players of that caliber, it isn't always easy to swap equipment, especially a key component.......
