Just heard about the next venture involving a match between the PGA and LIV. Scotty and Rory vs Bryson and Brooks in mid December. This should be an interesting match up. Have not seen the format or the odds. What is your take and who are you taking? Think I am leaning towards the PGA side of things. Scotty is just too hot to handle this year and he has a pretty good wingman.

I have a hard time associating the match of 4 people as a PGA versus LIV event. There are players on both tours I like and players on both I do not care to see. Sure, these celebrity and/or pro exposition events help promote golf but it’s still problematic having the fractured multiple tours at the highest level. It definitely dilutes the long term career comparisons across generations. I probably won’t watch.

I'd say the same Dale. I went to the Tiger/Rory, JT/Jordan match, they are a good draw, a little looser atmosphere than the typical golf event. I went to the LIV Orlando, which was within weeks of the Bay Hill event I've gone to for 30 years, still just a golf tournament with a little music playing! This match is just the perfect arena for the fans to talk a little extra smack. It'll be like us SEC Football guys leading up to the big game (Alabama/Georgia) for me....

Smack talking would be the Alabama vs Auburn. That match up is vicious and one of the worst in the US. Hate to use the word hate, but those two two teams do hate one another. Beware Rocky Top this year, some commentators say the most dangerous team in the SEC. If we get it all together, Bama and the Dawgs best look out. We play both. My two cents worth. =)

I will probably tune in but much like Dale, there are guys on both sides I like and ones I do not. Honestly, I'm over this whole PGA, LIV stuff as well. Either bring everyone back or let it be and move on.

Any golfer can attempt to qualify for 2 majors each year (US Open and The Open) if you're a PGA of America member, I think you have a path to the PGA. Masters champs are exempt for life, and any major winner gets a 5-year exemption into all the others so 2023 saw Rahm, Brooks win, and Bryson won the US Open this year.

I know I won’t be watching. I really wonder if these exhibitions do promote golf. I just don’t see the TV coverage attracting a lot of eyes.

Golf is golf regardless of where it is played or what 3 letters distinguish it. I'll be watching (and rooting against the "LIV" guys.

For my money, it's Scottie and 3 whiners, it'll be fun!
  10. I think it will be a great match. The caliber of play should be fantastic. I am a PGA guy. I think time is your enemy in golf, and you only get one chance at history, which is definitely on the PGA tour. Scotty and Rory have been great ambassadors for the game, and Bryson has certainly matured. Brooks seems out for himself. Regardless of the outcome, it should provide great entertainment! I can't wait, and will be glued to the screen.

I'll be watching. It's still golf and for us it's still entertaining.
As for the PGA vs LIV crowd, don't think for a minute that both aren't behind putting this together. I would not be surprised if this was the plan all along. Create tension with the fans, followed by a coming together. I predict that this will lead to some type of annual match play in the future.

I enjoy watching golf and try not to get caught up in the LIV vs PGA, they're both interesting to me. I think both organizations benefit by these events. LIV doesn't get huge TV ratings, and PGA ratings aren't what they used to be either. To be honest, YouTube is their biggest competitor and both should expand their content into that space.

Im a golf guy. Its my # 1 interest and I enjoy pretty much all aspects of it. I couldnt care any less about LIV golf and its events. Its irrelevant to the main scope. All those guys had their choice to make and they were aware of what could happen. A lot of them hey are still good players that can win the big events, no doubt. I like the PGA tour, i think its a great product, but im of the demographic where im gonna watch regardless. This "match" does not mean anything in the grand scope of it all, but I will likely tune in!

I'm not a fan of LIV, but I can only hope it's a step in the right direction that will lead to some resolution on the conflict between the tours. On the other hand, it's hard to bet against Scotty in any format.

Just read the PGA has made a move to allow the LIV players to play in the PGA Championships and the Ryder Cup. Bout time. Both are pros, sorta like union and non union bouts we have going on in America. Both have a right to earn a living as a golfer.
  17. Totally agree—it’s great to see both LIV and PGA players getting a fair shot. For the fans, this is a win-win. We get to watch the best golfers in the world, regardless of what league they’re in, go head-to-head in major tournaments. The quality of competition will only get better, which is what sports should be about—letting the best rise to the top. I’m looking forward to seeing how this shakes up the game

Been a disappointing year for sports for me.

I know money talks, but I was deliriously under the illusion that the PGA focus was as charity as a co- beneficiary. I was concerned about college fb coaches getting millions to squeeze as much as possible from “unpaid semi-pro” players. NIL and changing teams close to at will has ruined that illusion of playing for the glory of the school.

Haven’t bothered looking for the channel playing the exhibition league and find more things to do when the PGA is on. Haven’t watched a full televised round in months.

Haven’t even watched my alma mater for a full game. My wife appreciates the time not glued to these events. Maybe there is a silver lining. Unless, of course, if the Packers start sending me a residual check for watching them….

Hey Don. College football in the SEC is king and I will always be glued to the TV when it is on. I love my Tennessee volunteers and after wandering thru the desert for many years looking for a new coach and winning ways again, we found many who talk but could not walk the talk. The real UT (so designated by the SEC) finally found one who has reunited our Big Orange nation and we are playing team ball again and doing "fairly well" this year. Have been on a winning trend since his arrival. Most conferences and teams have been subsidizing players for many years, just not up front and legally. Those who had winning traditions kept their stars with incentives and those who not believe it are Emus. You know that character in Liberty Mutual commercial who head is in the sand, along with Doug. Football players drove new cars and got paid to water football fields as far back as the 60's. There were always a way around it. They did not come to get an education in most cases. I admire those who did. I had classes with football players in college and most did not show up for classes, even though the professors made it plain at the beginning of the quarter that if you miss a certain amount of classes it is an F. NOT. Bell curve was the normal for grading back then. No comment. Just sorry the NCAA took the hands off approach on the NIL. It could have been handled differently by managing it thru guidelines that would have been fair to all involved. No, just saying here it is, run with it. Just like LIV, go where the money is. Money is not the root of all evil, "the love of money, IS". Just my three cents worth. Hakuna matata.

3 out of 4 ain't bad. I just can't stand Brooks as he comes off so arrogant. I was happy to see him shoot 80 in an event since he didn't care - i wonder how his TEAMMATES felt about his lackluster performance?

Completely agree here. Brooks is a decent golfer, his attitude just isn't fun to deal with. I wasn't a big DeChambeau fan but he's been a bit better this year. This match is right around my birthday, I'm planning on attending.
  22. will be a great match... golf is golf and it is changing, there is no point getting up against it as we are not going to change it, to much money in it!

i went to both LIV events in Uk and the wife loved them both.... as she isnt a golfer.. but i go to the open every year and personally prefer that

both great events, just target different growds

I prefer the PGA. Way to much other things going on at LIV events than golf.
  26. I’m with you. Just don’t feel like LIV events have the same “pressure “ as pga events

I can’t even pretend to show an interest in this. Personally I’m over the PGA/LIV conversation. I just watch the majors and spend the majority of my golf viewing watching DP and LPGA tours.
