Read an article on Fred Couples and his plans on what his bag will be at the next Masters. He now has an old man’s bag. Fairways and hybrids dominate with only irons for 7-P and 2 wedges.

I like to think he is copying my lead. Basically the same mix that I went to earlier this year. That he is 65 and I’m 74, maybe I should have done this earlier??

In any event, those of us at a certain age need to get fit and fit more often to get our best mix of clubs for where we are physically. Father Time wins eventually. Usually before we acknowledge it…

Father Time has taken its toll, now at 66 I have slowly dwindled down my long irons, 3-5, with hybrids. I remember when getting a 7 wood was a stretch but now my only fairway wood is a 3!!!
  3. Sounds like Freddy Couples recently

This may be true, but Freddy will still look warm and syrupy with those hybrids! What a swing he has!

Started to notice the big differences when I turned 76. All the aches and pains started aiding in my decline. Still carrying a five iron just not striking it as well. My set up D - 10.5, F - 15.0 F - 17.0 H - 20 5-W48 52 and 58 W

    Kudos to Freddie!!

I've got a 6 iron that is a nice "punch-out" club when I'm in the trees. If it's between a 6I (26*) and my 25* hybrid I opt for the hybrid. So easy to hit!!

I absolutely love the hybrids, I just have a hard time with the yardages. The Titleist hybrids seem hot to me, which isn't a bad thing. Consistency is key, something Tour players like Couples don't have a problem with.

100% agree with you, soooooo easy to hit. Distance control is very tough and all hybrids are "hot", shaft length probably will control distance by controlling CHS. 4* difference and only 3/8" difference you'll probably get similar distances,

I use 1 and a 5 wood, skip an iron and always have a 3 or 4 iron in the bag because there are shots you can hit BETTER controlling the launch angle than with a similar loft hybrid. (CG, MOI, etc.)

I agree with Bill V. For me, I have a 3 hybrid and keep my 4 iron in the bag. Gives me options based on how I need to launch. Love the hybrid and would have no problem adding more as I need them.
  11. I totally agree, the hybrids will be much more forgiving and they will make the better experience. In my mind you need to get a proper fitting to get the right shafts etc.

    Lethbridge,

I read an article that not one player in the top 10 of the OWGR uses hybrids regularly. They are using more fairway woods ie: 7 woods. I have a TSi 7 wood that is amazing.

I am looking to maybe follow that trend, I am going for a fitting of the new GT line and will probably end up with a lot of FW woods and hybrids, time to admit I'm getting old I guess
