Playing the final hole at Lockwood Folly CC, my tee shot drew far left into the high thickets (massively did not want to get wet on the right-side pond). Leaving a good 240+ lie. Smashed 5 wood to the edge of the green and rolled the put in (right back corner, near the pool retaining wall) from about 84 feet for Eagle (witnessed). I received an applause and a "Thumbs up".

  2. Wow amazing shot and eagle. Those ones are very memorable!

I have never had a hole in one or an eagle. The closeest I ever got was bouncing a three wood off the pin so hard it left paint on the ball.

Casual round at Meadow Valleys Course (Kohler, WI). The 14th is a 423 yd Par4 that doglegs to the right descending to a peninsula green roughly 50-60 feet below the level of the landing area. Opted for my 19* Hybrid off the tee but managed to hit it too well and ran through the fairway into the tree-shaded rough......STYMIED. With no clear look at the green, I decided to keep the ball in play and attempt to advance down the fairway with a low running draw and have a chance at an up and in par. Executed the shot the way I had planned and from the immediate reaction of my playing partners was pleasantly pleased to find that I had been left with a 3-foot putt for birdie. Made the putt but will never forget the feeling of visualizing and executing on a low percentage approach shot (7i from 165ish).

  5. Wow that is fantastic. Great pics
  6. Playing in the regional high school golf tournament against J.B. Holmes. Pulled my second shot on a par 4 up against a rock on the bank of pond that was on the far side of the green. It was about a 30 yard shot over the pond to hit the green. Opened up my sand wedge and hit the ball. Obviously the club stopped immediately after I hit it against the rock. Ball landed and stopped 2 inches from the hole to save par. Chipped the crap out of my sand wedge. Oh and didn't come close to beating J.B. Holmes.
  7. Wow great shot. Awesome story. Did I hear correctly he was playing Varsity in the 7th or 8th grade?

The one that sticks in my mind, even over a decade later, is the almost albatross on my home course's twelfth hole, a par 5. Playing from the member's tees, about 475 yds if I am correct, I laced a drive over the bunker on the corner of the dogleg left and had about 170 yds remaining to a front right pin. My second shot, a 4 iron (before I converted to hybrids), landed short and ran up to about one half inch short of the cup. Easy tap-in eagle, but oh, what might have been.
  9. Sweet!
  10. After a rather abysmal drive with a left to right wind on the 18th hole at Erin Hills, my tee shot ended up near the forward tee box on the 7th hole. I was fortunate enough to catch a bit of a flyer lie on top of some fescue but the wind was now more into me than it was across and the dogleg left meant that I would need to play the shot well left of the green if I wanted to have a chance at saving par. I pulled my 3-wood ready to swing for the fences just as my caddie chimed in to politely remind me that I was in fact NOT Justin Thomas, this was NOT Sunday at The US Open and suggested I take a shorter club, get it in the fairway and have a decent shot in to save par. But I didn’t come all the way to Erin Hills to lay-up and they make new balls everyday so I decided to be a hero. Well, 280 yards of that 3-wood later I landed just short of the green, had a nice bump and run to a back pin placement and 3 putts later I was in for bogey which humbly reminded me that just because one shot went well, doesn’t mean the other 5 did but damn it if that well struck 3-wood isn’t the best feeling in the world. That shot at Erin Hills was my favorite of 2024! Can’t wait for 2025!

I'll take a bogey on the 18th at Erin Hills any day. Sounds like a fantastic 2nd shot. Well done!!

I have this print in my office and frequently reminisce about past rounds at E.H., often times to the detriment of my productivity. My last round there was as a threesome with a friendly wager to break par (best ball) with our caddies. My bogey on the 18th sealed it with a -1 (71) for our day.

  12. Great round! That is one of my Bucket List courses. Looks amazing
  13. ha ha that is a great story!
  14. I just had an Albatross on 10/22/24 at Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive, Mi on the 7th hole. It’s a par 5 530 yard hole. I was 232 yards out and hit my TSR 2 3 wood with my Pro V1x ball. After looking around for my ball we decided to look in the hole and there it was.

TT event at Frilford Heath. 2nd hole par 5, playing partners out the hole but I was in the middle of the fairway 225 from the flag. Left to right wind, aiming at the left green side bunker to allow the wind to bring back in, 19 rescue flew exactly how I wanted with one hop on the green and disappeared! I’d had everything else, Ace, Birdie Eagle etc but now the Albatross!!

Having played the game for over 40 years I've hit many a great shot during bounce games (plenty bad ones too) such as holing out from distance to record an Eagle or sinking a 50ft putt over an undulating green at St Andrews. However for me the "great shot" is the one that is played under pressure and ultimately leads to something special, and again for me, more of these come in matchplay golf situations One hole that comes to mind in recent times was played during my Club Championship matchplay semi final. Needing to win the last hole to take the match into a play off I managed to find the fairway with my drive. My opponent did the same and played his 2nd shot onto the green to about 15 feet, job done. With 80yds left I took out my 56° SM9 and knocked it into 9" for the gimmie birdie putt. With the pressure now on my opponent he missed his birdie chance and onto a playoff we went. I won the 1st play off hole and I subsequently went onto win the Matchplay final to become Club Champion. For me, I hit 2 great shots on the 18th, but what was the greatest shot? Was it my drive hitting the fairway to set up the short wedge shot or was it the wedge shot itself?

  18. I would probably have to pick a shot I had a few years ago. Holed out from a fairway bunker from 87yds. Got a lucky kick but I’ll take it.
  19. Awesome! I will always take a little luck on the course. I had a similar story 2 years ago, normally i clear the path of my putt but decided not to as it was fall. My putt hit a leaf that knocked it back on line and went in the hole for a birdie :-)

I've been lucky to have two shots over the last 30+years that stick out. The first being an eight iron from 140 out on a downhill slope to a lower elevated green. The ball hit the green, two hopped and dropped right in the hole. I was unfortunately playing solo, but still jumped and yelled with excitement.
The second was back in high school during a practice round at Table Mountain Golf Course on the par 5 14th (used to be the 5th). 2nd shot from 200+ with a 3 wood. Ball went like a laser to the green. We finally get up the the green and I don't see my ball. I walk to the back fringe/rough thinking it went through the green. While looking, one of my teammates putted out and found my ball at the bottom of the cup with his. I didn't know the odds of an albatross at the time, as I had only been playing golf for maybe two years. I just thought was cool to get a double eagle and it was somewhat common. Had I known I would have kept the ball.
  21. Great stories!!

No aces for me, but 2 Albatross on the same hole about 4 months apart at the local muni. First one was from the trees with a 4 iron(210ish out), second one was a hybrid from the fairway(230out).

Been fortunate to hit many great shots over the years including a few hole in ones but the one that always sticks with me is more for sentimental than anything else.

1998, 13 years old playing with my father. Pushed a drive right and blocked from the green on a short par 4. Big slice 8 iron from 130-something to tap in range. Father looks over, smiles, and says, “guess my days of winning are numbered”.

That one will stick with me forever. Miss those summers.

  24. I have had hole out eagles, but my best was a hole in three on a par 3. Drowned my first ball, and rather than hitting from a drop zone, I re teed, and knocked it in.
  25. Having played this wonderful(ly) maddening game for 35 years now, I've got a few that stand out..

    1. one of the few times I played with my dad before he passed, playing my then home course 14th par 3.
Shanked it into the woods, found it, blasted out, and in, for the unlikely birdie!

    2. Moved north for work, playing the Dawson Creek BC course. Another par 3, 155 pin, hit 9i.
soon as it made contact, I said to myself "that's in the hole". It hit the green, then bounced to a foot away..
Got to the green, and the divot was pushed over the edge of the cup, so maybe another 1/2" further forward, and it just dunks!?

    3. current home course, one of the first rounds with my current T200's.. First hole, gap wedge from 118, hits green, spins back into the hole for opening eagle!

Most recent one, was at the TT Canadian GT launch event. Sunday team event, hole 1 at Fox Harb'r...
Take my drive, then I step up and hit 7i to about 3 feet, drain the putt, to get our team off and running!
We ended up winning the event in a count back, so pretty pumped to have helped out along the way!!
