Myrtle Beach golf course recommendations

    Tony- there are a number of course in MB available in the price range you mentioned and quite a number of premium courses where you will drop $150+. Here are several course I have played.....

    In the $100 range, which would be your top 3? I'm staying near Myrtlewood so that might be handy. Course condition and setting are factors for me. I'm a 7 handicap so good with a challenging and intersting layout. My favourite courses Stateside are Kiawah Island Ocean and Sawgrass if that helps.

    On the higher end, I was looking a one or maybe two of True Blue, Caledonia or Kings North.

    I'm also going to be golfing Myrtle Beach for the first time in a few months. There are so many courses. I'd love to hear some suggestions as well for top 5 courses under $100!! Or maybe under $50... also have access to GolfNow deals... let's hear it TT ?!?!

    Aberdeen and Long Bay, both are in Longs, north and west of Myrtle Beach, but both are very nice courses and are very affordable.

    Try Teeoff.com. Lots of courses in Myrtle Beach at discounted prices. You should have a great time there.

    Keep your eyes peeled for alligators! Always fun to snap a few pics (from a safe distance) of those magnificent creatures!

    Here is a shot of one of the many gators just seen on my last trip to Hilton Head. They were all over the place from the prior hurricane. It got to the point where we didn't even bother taking pictures because everywhere you looked, there one was.

    Normally don't participate in online forums, but this one is right up my ally and too good to pass on. I've been hosting a tournament with b-school friends in Myrtle for 22 years. We play 5 rounds in three days, so I've played just about every course down there. There are some good ones and some not so good ones, and, over the years, we've narrowed it down to a regular rotation: Grand Dunes (Thursday), True Blue and Caledonia (Friday), Legends Heathland and Moreland (because we stay at the legends).

    If you are coming this far, don't miss the opportunity to play Caledonia and True Blue. 2 of the 7 courses Mike Strantz designed before he passed. Great layouts and great examples of low country golf. Playing Caledonia is one of my favorite days every year.

    Cannot go wrong with these recommendations. Cheap rates do not always mean well kept courses. You can't always get what you want with under $50 rates in MB. Do not know of any.

    Gotta add WORLD TOUR to the list. Play holes that replicate Augusta's Amen Corner and the island green at TPC Sawgrass. Pretty reasonable too and within your price range. Enjoy

    Thanks, I'd read about that one and the idea of playing an Amen Corner replica really appeals having just been to Augusta. Will definatly try to get on this one.

    If you are coming down to SC this time of the year. We are in a winter funk. I live 1.5 hrs south of MB and it was 23* last night. High today 45 and windy. That wind off the ocean along the coast can be butal. Kinda like playing in Irland on a cold windy day.

See if they offer senior or veterans discount. Also if you are a member of PGAHope, ask if they offer a discount to our members. Myrtle Beach, Merrills Inlet and Pawleys Island, all great areas to play.

    I went last year and played at Shaftesbury Glen, The Wizard, Man O War, and Legends Moorland all four were very reasonable and enjoyable courses.

    We have a place in Brunswick County, NC and I've played a lot of the courses in the area. In addition to all the excellent suggestions above, here are a few more if you can head north a little ways from Myrtle Beach:

    Thistle Golf Club - Sunset Beach, NC
    Brunswick Plantation - Calabash, NC
    Rivers Edge - Shallotte, NC (one of my personal favorites, very fun Arnold Palmer course)
    Crow Creek - Calabash, NC
    Meadowlands - Calabash, NC
    River Hills - Little River, SC

    Being 1 hour North of MB, I suggest the Low-Country courses on Pawleys Island.
    As every area has its own qualities, these courses are like no others in the world.

    If you are willing to drive a bit north, there are some great courses in the Calabash area, namely Thistle GC and The Pearl. Depending on where you are staying in Myrtle, should only be 30-45 minutes away.
