  1. Hi

I am a 62 year old handicap 19 (lowest 14) I currently have both  910D2/913D2  drivers, both fitted with Bassarra 50g A flex shaft.

As I now struggle with distance off the tee will it help if I reduce the shaft length by 1.5 ins. I am told this will increase cub head speed thus it will produce more distance?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

    Michael O

Hi Michael, thanks for your message.

Potentially, but it depends if poor technique means that you cannot square up a longer shaft and your arc width reduces in trying to square up the head.  Otherwise, shortening the shaft length will simply reduce club and ball speed, meaning less distance.

The reduction in length will reduce the swingweight, which will mean the club will need to be re-balanced to make the shaft perform at it's best. A heavier weight for the head will need to be purchased to return the club to the correct swingweight. It's difficult to say if the flight will change, as it would depend on how you would swing it at the new length.  In theory, the flight shouldn't change, but it could not be guaranteed.

Obviously to try a shorter shaft and test the result, we would recommend coming for a fitting.  We have Diamana Blue+ 62 in Reg flexes at 44", 44.5" & 45" to compare against each other (at our National Fitting Centres).  We will also be able to test loft and recommend the correct shaft and setting for the new driver.

    Hope that helps. Daviid
