    Hi,

Basically I have recently got down to 9 and I've found that my handicap is not getting lower due to not having much control of my wedge shots from about 70-60 yards. I feel that if I get that part of my game sorted id be much lower. Just wondering if any one has tips on how I can maybe gain control and begin to stop the ball? All feedback would be appreciated:)

    Thanks Jake.

    Hi Jake

Nothing beats practice I'm afraid. I found the best way is to get out on the course or practice ground and set your distance and play shots with your wedges trying to vary the flight into the target. Try to visualise the shot you want to play, either flying the ball all the way to the target with check or dropping it in low with less spin and more roll, then practice each shot so that you are familiar with how each shot feels.

Concentrate on striking the ball first to generate backspin and adjust the length of your backswing to ensure that you accelerate into the back of the ball to help avoid quitting on the shot.

Like yourself I got myself down to 9 then found it harder to get lower until I committed the time to my short game, I am now down to 4 so believe me there is a payoff for practice.

    Good luck

    Hi Keith,

Believe it or not I've done this and just got my self down to 6 during the week end there

I'm committing  my self to the wedge shots and it just shows how important short game really is

Thanks for your reply man really helpful and hopefully you get down lower than 4 :)

    cheers again

    Hi Jake

Well done, keep up the good work. I am working away at my game too so hopefully will keep seeing progress.
