    Hello all

Ive been playing golf for a few years now and ive been thinking of making the change to Titleist for a while but ive never got round to it, i don't have an official handicap, at a guess i'd say i'd be somewhere between 15 - 20 with the potential from what people have said to play slightly lower if i'm on a going day. When i'm confident i strike the ball well, i can hit quite long but like with most amateur golfers like myself i'm not as consistent as i would like to be, i really enjoy the game though.

Anyway, i'm currently using some game improvement irons from another brand, they are excellent clubs but i feel i would like to progress from GI irons to something with more of a feel but still has a bit of forgiveness. Ive been looking at the both the AP1 and AP2 irons, my preference would be for the AP2 irons, this is where i'd like some help.

Would you say the AP2 is a fairly forgiving iron, would it be an ideal crossover from game improvement irons which i want to progress from ?

When i was last custom fitted my swing speed with a 6 iron was 92mph, i'd say that could have dropped slightly as ive been working on a slower take back to be more smooth, sacrificing a little bit of speed for better smoothness and accuracy if you understand that. Ive been using the Dynalite XP 100 shafts on my current irons which were a match for my swing speed back then, ideally i'd like something just a fraction more softer, would you say the S300 shafts would be more suitable ? Their is no Titleist fitting centre near to where i live which is not far from Manchester so its difficult to get custom fitted without a very long drive.

Ive always used Titleist balls and they are 2nd to none in my opinion, i currently use the NXT Tour which are fantastic, they hit long but you still get a nice feel around the greens with them.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Rob,

I moved to Titleist around 2 years ago ( from TM)  - moving to AP2's, 913 drivers / fairway woods and SMwedges, as well as SC putter.

Handicap has dropped from 12 to 6 ( paying at courses with a slope rating of 140) and I couldn't be happier. I am now on my 2nd set of AP2's. I  thought Titliest would be too advanced for me - but I was properly measured up, and the club pro indicated it would make a difference.

    I thoroughly recommend the equipment.

    Regards

Hi Rob Like you I had a set of game improvement irons from another brand and I played quite consistently but wanted To make that next step up with a club that would take me to the next level. I purchased my AP2 irons 4 weeks ago and have definitely made the right decision the difference in my ball striking and ball flight Has improved greatly . I am getting used to the extra yards it has gave me and it will only be a short matter of time before my handicap starts to decrease. I was recommended by my dealer to go for a regular shaft and it has suited my swing speed perfectly. I did try a demo club 6 iron for a weekend which definitely helped me come to the decision so my irons would suit my swing. Good luck Steve Chettleburgh

    Hi Rob,

I moved to Titleist everything last year, started off with the 910 driver and it just snowballed...one thing I would reccomend highly is go and get fitted, yes we all have a rough idea of how we hit the ball but we're not pros and every single shot we hit is different, a fitting will best help you narrow down your choices.

I think theres a place in Manchester called the performance golf institute? they are a surefit centre so can do this fitting for you...

    Good Luck!

Its the best decision I have ever made moving to Titleist, they are not into fancy gimmicks just producing goods that work. Go and get fit I promise you wont regret the decision.

    Hi Rob,

i moved from blades to ap2's because they were the only cavity backs which provided a similar feel. They are extremely forgiving and my consistency with distance has improved dramatically. I also went for the 913 driver, fairway and hybrid  and vokey wedges. I now have real confidence over the ball and to be honest this has a lot to do with the quality of the fitting from titliest  wedges alone took about 2hrs and really helped to give me a better understanding of  my game.

Good luck with your new irons and I hope you enjoy the fitting experience as I did.

    Cheers,

    M

Try them both out and see which you like best.
