  1. I was lucky enough to receive a sleeve of 'test' pro v1 balls in the post this week.

Took the balls straight to the course this morning for the comparison, the weather had nose dived in the last week and was about 3-4 degree C and was quite breezy. Started the test on the putting green and immediately found them to feel softer off the putter. So then on to the course and a hit with the driver, seemed to launch a little higher for me with less spin (especially side spin) and no loss in distance considering the drop in temp, I didn't notice any softer feel but did notice though it seemed to be more stable in the wind. Noticed a softer feel with the irons and seemed to gain a slight increase in distance even with a slight increase in launch and stable flight in wind. The same shot stopping control you would expect from a pro v1 was evident on full shots. No great increase in spin(could be down to temp drop) Short shots and chipping with this ball was the same as existing pro v1 just with the added soft feel, no great increase in spin here also maybe as above. Would be good to test again in warmer conditions.

All in all very incouraging early signs for the new ball and will be putting them straight in the bag once released.

Are you able to distinguish if its the pro vi or vix?
  3. Dave,
The dimple size would indicate that it is a pro v1 not the pro v1x

They have the same colouring, i.e. ProV1 protos have black numbers, X's have red.
  5. Dave, by the dimples it appears to be a pro v1 not the pro v1x
  6. They have black numbers

Just had the nice surprise of receiving a sleeve of test balls. However they arrived just as the weather decided to throw 40mph winds and rain at the North of Scotland, so not played a lot of golf.
However had a break in the weather this week so took off to the course to try the test balls, I received the black number balls which I take to be a proV1 prototype.
I was aware of a slightly lower ball flight from these balls off both Driver and irons and good stability into a head wind and also less deviation in crosswinds. The ball generated plenty of spin off my wedges so I had to be conscious of throwing the ball past the flag to allow for backspin on soft greens.
I felt they reacted well around the greens with chips and pitches reacting the way I expected with a solid click off the face when struck. Also felt good off the putter face with a consistent roll when struck well.
Overall I would need to play a lot more with these balls to try and determine any differences with my usual proV1 ball, just hoping for some better weather.
