  1. I was lucky enough to visit Scotty's gallery and studio last week for a fitting (and shopping!) experience. My 2+ hour fitting experience was with Spencer, a great guy who couldn't have been more helpful and explained the mechanics of the stroke and the analysis in very simple terms.

It's incredible to watch your putting stroke in super slow motion, and see how the stoke affects the path of the ball. I went in thinking I was a decent putter and after 5 minutes thought I should find a new sport!

As we went through the session Spencer identified what was going wrong in the set up and stroke to cause the ball to react so erratically off the putter face. We then slowly put together the changes required to eradicate the faults. It was a real eye opener and I came away feeling much more confident in my new stroke having seen the results on video.

The shopping experience is fabulous, as with everything Scotty does the gallery is beautifully designed and laid out. Tour and MOTO putters are sitting their in racks waiting for anyone to come along and give them a roll and there were some beautiful examples on the day I visited. Sadly photography isn't allowed in the store so I can't share images.

My preference is for mallet-style putters and the style that appeared to be the best fit, both technically and aesthetically, was the Futura 5MB. I asked Spencer if they had a Tour model in stock, which they did. It was all black with CT stamped large on the bottom and the Tour Only black shaft.

It didn't look so different from OTR versions and I'd already spotted a MOTO version in the store which had a really different look. So this is the one I went for, with an electric blue face and sole, plus it came with a Tour Only black shaft and black shaft ring. And it's about 1/3 the price of a tour putter :)

I've posted a couple of photos of the putter and the other stuff I couldn't resist buying.

The lesson and putter really came to the fore yesterday when I played Pelican Hills, an incredible course, and birdied 3 in a row from the 2nd. Made a mess of the last 2 holes but it was a good round and I holed around 150ft of putts.

If you ever get the chance to visit the gallery and book a fitting session I can't recommend it highly enough.

Glad you enjoyed it Simon. The fittings are great, as you said a real eye opener to things you didn't even know you were doing wrong! I haven't heard one person that has said the fitting didn't help them improve their stroke!

Looking forward to seeing the Moto and all the other swag soon!

Thanks for the update Simon, it sounds like a very worthwhile trip. I have never had a putter fitting and have always gone with an anser style Scotty as that is the shape I prefer but maybe a fitting will tell me otherwise.

We are planning a holiday along the west coast next year and I have added a trip to the store in the itinerary. Hopefully I can also book a fitting.
  6. That's great James. I think the studio fittings are booked up pretty quickly so it's worth booking now if you have your itinerary sorted out.

The fitter will take in to account your personal putter preference as it's about aesthetics and what suits your eye as well as mechanics.

He really liked the way a Cameron & Crown mid mallet worked for me but I don't like the sight lines on the flange.
Funny thing is that the next day at the Pokémon golf event I won exactly that putter for longest drive
I now have a couple of putters to sell which will at least part-fund the studio visit.
Or more likely go towards a set of 718 TMB's :)

Just for fun I've uploaded a photo of the Pokémon golf swag, there was also a shirt and 1/4 zip pullover. If you look closely there's a Titleist ball with a Pokémon stamped on it, I got a dozen of those, won't ever be used :)

Good tip, thanks Simon. Does the store limit you on what you can buy - I have a few mates asking for headcovers already :)
    Loving the Pokemon swag.
  8. Hi James, the only limit I know of is that CT covers can only be bought if you have a tour putter.
I didn't try to buy 2 of anything but don't imagine they'd be too concerned unless you were going crazy.
You could always send the wife and kids in one at a time if you want to bend the rules!

Looks like an amazing trip Simon and nice to hear that the Poke gear you were talking about at the TCC event managed to materialise in such a great way.
Glad the gallery fitting was as productive as it was enjoyable, the blue MOTO looks amazing.
