Poor fitting options?

    After a Driver fitting at a Titleist Thursday event I wasn't sold on the 917 D2, although the Fairway and 818's were excellent.

    Since then my current driver has decided to refuse to allow the adjustment screw to tighten (I must add it's not a Titleist ) and in desperation I visited a national retailer to see what else was on offer.

    Their fitting selection was fairly comprehensive with makes, heads and shaft combo's, however they didn't have any shafts with a midsize grip.

    In both fittings I've felt that the lack of correct grip size has affected my delivery and feel for the club. I felt I had to grip tighter and my lower had moves more on top of the grip.

    I mentioned this to the Titleist fitter who said it would increase the number of shafts they would need... but maybe one in each of the standard option shafts wouldn't be too much to ask, would it?

    When we're being asked to part with significant amounts of money why can't those taking our money allow us to try the end product?

    I must agree that I cant believe that you cant be fitted using the size grips that you would actually need / use. I'm a midsize grip player myself and have had wood, irons and wedge fittings all with the standard size grip. I've often wondered if there would be a performance difference between the standard and the midsize I am used to. I understand that it would results in a huge amount of extra fitting shafts (if you can image midsize and jumbo versions of the various length options in each type of shaft and flex of shaft!!!) but I cant believe an OEM hasn't come up with a way to do it yet!

    To be fair, how far do you take this? I play with +2 layers under standard grips, my son the same at the top of the grip and a further layer under the bottom. Different grip sizes would mean extra shafts which wouldn’t be practical. Whilst I agree that the grip is important and your point of connection with the club, in a fitting it is the relative performance that is important and getting the grip right will fine tune what should be obvious from a proper fitting...

    I need Jumbo grips as I have long hands/fingers. I too think it would be good if you could try some of the clubs with bigger grips. Especially with needing Jumbo like myself. I feel like the club is turning sometimes with the normal standard grips in demos/fittings.
