Hi Team Titleist Since the weather isn’t great and the days are short I’ve decided to start going to the gym to keep me busy and to try improve my golf further as well. I would love to hear your thoughts on the gym for golf and what exercises are good for golf. Thanks guys and girls

    Blair,

Good on you for keeping fit. A friend of mine really reduced his handicap through gym work as the additional fitness meant he was able to concentrate for longer and got less frustrated/angry.

Last year I decided to take up yoga to increase range of movement but it's on the list to start in 2019.

  3. Blair,

Never liked gym work... Don't suppose I ever will now... too hot and not enough air.
I'd rather get cold at the driving range and are also more Simulators around these days where you can keep your game together.

Ant seems to have a point with the yoga... wonder about tai chi??

Never mind, Shortest day tomorrow and after that it's all getting brighter.

    Hi Blair
I follow TPI on Instagram and they have some great exercises on their feed and also on their website. Very golf specific and from the no. 1 brand. I work a lot on rotation and flexibility rather than weights as it helps me turn through the swing quicker.
    Hope that helps.
    Have a good Xmas

Thankyou for the replies guys I will definitely look into TPI and seek some advice from a PT. I will update you with any progress I make a few months down the line and see if my handicap can get from 1 down to the magic 0 or better!
    Thanks

  6. Hi Blair,

As a gym goer myself I can attest to the effects having a positive impact on my game. I found with the added strength and flexibility I had more control over my swing and was able to generate some great extra clubhead speed and distance.

If you've not been to the gym before I would recommend looking into have some personal training sessions (preferably one with with a golfing background) who can advise on what exercises you should be doing and come up with a training plan you can use.

Alternatively there are some great videos on YouTube if you search "golf gym workouts" or something similar.

Keep us up to date with your progress!

    Kind regards

    Howdy Blair,
Winter season indeed is coming up. Personally myself I hate subscribing to a GYM subscription of 6months+.. .. so instead I follow the TPI program. (Titleist)

There is a load of web movies available, all for free!! Simply create your own MyTPI account: http://www.mytpi.com/
And browse to the exercises. http://www.mytpi.com/exercises
Get the hardware on the MyTPI webshop or ebay or local sport shop and you are boxed off for the winter season.

Hope this helps. If you are find it interesting... you can always get certified for TPI.

    Happy swings,

    Bart
