It's always nice and satisfying having fresh grips! Sometimes I like to regrip my clubs myself but sometimes it's far easier to just get my club pro to do it. Recently I've had my club pro do it as I've been using the Golf Pride Align grips so its not quite as easy to get the grip lined up perfectly with the ridge running down the grip especially when the solution dries quickly.

I definitely trust my pro more than myself though haha

I got the Golf Pride MCC Align +4 Grey on my new TS2 and ts 3 wood from Titleist.
My OCD kicked in and I had to get my sm7 wedges and 718 AP2 irons done with the same grips.
I gave them to my local pro to do he didn’t charge that much and always does a fantastic job.
  3. I will remove and save a grip myself if it's just a question of maybe trying out a new style of grip, or to try out extra layers of tape.
But usually most pro's will do it for free, and it's a good idea to give them the job. As the old saying goes 'Use them or loose them.'

Totally agree in supporting the pro but unfortunately my club doesn't have a traditional pro in that they just do lessons and fittings and the shop is run by the club, so he doesn't do repairs either.

I'll probably go back to the pro who did my fitting as he can check the lie at the same time.
  5. I've moved up to MCC +4 as well all 1+1 wraps, on woods & wedges.
Regular Golf Pride 1+1 wraps on the AP's.
Like El B above, my OCD is driving me slowly but surely towards upgrading the AP's to the same MCC's.. also in grey.
I understand my compulsion and have learned to live with it.
I know it's National Downes Syndrome Day today but I'm very much afraid I couldn't wear odd socks no matter how much I might support a cause!!

I used to grip all my own clubs, it’s very easy to do. Usually now I just get my local pro to do them as I never have the time with work being so busy.

I still prefer trusty old plain black golf pride grips and I’m lucky in that my son is PGA so I just get him to do them for me!

GP Midsize Red and White throughout, if they are not all the same they just don't look right !
  9. Always get my Pro to do, as I don't want a miss aligned grip on any of my clubs
  10. I'm thinking of getting the z-cord align but don't want to put them on everything just yet.

    Might try one club first.

Anybody have any experience with the z-cord grips? Do they last long?

Check out some local clubs as near me they have been offering a free align grip … I believe this might be a Foremost Golf offer, but not 100% sure.
  12. I had midsize z chord on my SM6, lasted well for 2 seasons, I always tried to clean them after 2-3 rounds with just hot soapy water. Felt good and looked good so happy days

I tried a Z Cord align at the Scottish Golf Show last week, felt really good

I had the original Z Cord on my 3 wood when they first came out, I liked it but felt it went off quicker than the Lamkin Cord I usually use

My local pro shop every time...rather trust a professional. My tools are way to important for me to carry out any sort of hack job on them!

Its not a difficult job to regrip your clubs as long as you have the right tools, a vice, a rubber vice clamp. golf grip tape and white spirit.
There's a good video from Golf Pride on YouTube that takes you through the process, although I've found fitting the Golf Pride MCC Align +4 takes a bit of patience they can be a bit tricky, I wouldn't suggest you try and fit those on your first attempt.
I'd rather do my own I make sure they're on properly and fit new tape every time, something that a lot of pros don't they just put the new grip on the original tape.
Our local pro charges an extra £5 for fitting each new grip, that on the top of the price of the grips makes it an expensive option if your replacing all thirteen clubs, for a relatively easy task.
I've found the best place to buy grips is Gamola Golf in Aberdeen, they supply a good range of manufacturer's grips and reasonably priced, they also sell the tools and tape you'll need to make this job easier. Be careful if you're buy the high spec ones on eBay as there's a lot of fakes.

I re grip my own. Doesn't require expensive tools and is a money saver when doing a full set of irons.

    All,

    Thanks for you input.

I've done my own regripping in the past and just last week regripped the Mrs 3 wood she would have played that grip right down until the shaft broke through.

Anyone thinking of regripping check out Golf Pride on Amazon they had 13 Tour Velvet with tape, solvent and rubber grip for around £63 which is well under cheapest online price per grip I've found.

  21. GP MCC +4 or else Winn Grips. Both are excellent, I use midsize but find the Winn midsize a bit small so would need an extra layer of tape, I currently have Lamkin Midsize and tried the GP + Winn on two irons. I like doing the grips myself, buy them online from golf shops and not eBay due to fakes, i got a shaft puller off eBay, it's a custom one a guy makes out of a car jack. It works great for clapping the shaft for doing grips, plastic box/ tray works wonders.

I've. Regripped several sets of my own clubs no problem. Just need a sharp (Stanley) knife, tape and plenty of white spirit.
Takes me about 2 hours for a full set of 13 and I find it strangely therapeutic. Not therapeutic enough to volunteer to do my friends grips though!
