  1. Cavendish Golf Club is crowdfunding to raise £50,000 to save this beautiful course.

I was hoping to play it again this year but it's never a good thing when your struggling for I don't think people realise that there's not gonna be much left after Lockdown. You can't keep afloat it's there's no income for a long period of time.

    Such a shame.

  2. Alex,
The Cavendish in Derbyshire, near Buxton??
I've only played it the once, in a comp, and it was both engaging and challenging, as you'd expect from a McKenzie course. The humps & hollows on the final hole particularly sticks in the memory. A lovely course & a friendly club
That was some time ago - seem to remember gaming a TM Bubble Burner driver, before I saw the light & moved up to Titleist.
    Will look it up.

Yes that's correct ooo I bet that was an ask in competition. Your spot on the the place is beautiful.

About 8 of us went there for a day out and it was really enjoyable and the weather was fantastic to boot.

I really hope they can manage to get enough to keep the ship afloat.

It's going to be tough, that is for sure. There are clubs that very reliant on visitor revenue that are going to be particularly acutely affected as it's hard to see when this sort of revenue will get back to anything like pre-Covid levels.

It is heartneing to see that Cavendish have so far managed to raise £28,000.

    Sad news indeed.

I’m only guessing there are many more clubs in the same position.

A club near me was still taking subs for 2 Months which all of the money was being put into the club which 90% of members was happy to let happen.
  6. It is sad to hear of many clubs struggling financially throughout Covid-19 crisis. However, since reopening, some clubs have hiked prices for visitors or do not take bookings from visitors. I just hope their shortsighted view doesn't backfire when life resembles normality and they question why visitors don't return.

this i can understand both sides, a quarter of this year we havent been able to play but still paid our monthly fees with no talk of extending our membership or any sort of refund. happy enough with that, however upon being able to return to golf when the rules were relaxed we couldnt get onto our own home course due to so many visitors.
  8. I don’t think it’s shortsighted. Whilst it would be great if members and visitors alike could get a game, with the short daylight hours and bad weather, the clubs have to prioritise the members that have continued to pay their subs throughout lockdown. I know at our club we have to book two weeks in advance to get a tee time for 3 players at the moment, so accepting visitors just isn’t practicable right now.

I m lucky in that my club only has about 250-260 members and getting teetimes is usually ok and we seem to be keeping our head above water at the moment too. I sympathise with others, golf is my saving grace............second to my wife if she reads this!
