It seems more and more are popping up, I enjoy the content some provide but don't want to get mixed up in lots of swing thoughts and fixes and would rather stick to being coached by my local PGA pro as he knows my so-called swing. Just out of interest how many of you are coaching yourselves on the range or by your local pro and what are your thoughts on these Youtube coaches/content creators with their swing tips to club reviews.

  2. Neil,
I have a PGA pro who takes care of my coaching and fitting needs. We discuss options and alternatives along with life in general. I'm confident in his advice, while he knows what I like and what suits me. He knows I put time into my game (groove my faults?) and spends time on my game without necessarily going into full coaching mode. Have to say I'm comfortable with this arrangement.

With the YouTubers, I rarely watch coaching specialists (maybe Danny Maude, Ali Taylor) but only dip in and out. The Average Golfer (Andy Sullivan) did a series of "Test the Tips" vids which was "Interesting"to say the least.

Local pro for me, I need to see my swing on video and for him to explain it. He has trackman as well which is a bonus. Low point and and face are a big help.

    Good question Neil,

its a bit of both for me, Danny Maude and Alistair Davies are ones I regularly dip into, both have good tips and drills which I try and relate to when practicing. If I lived nearer their locations I'd follow it up with a lesson.

Having said that there's no substitute to having a lesson with PGA professional looking at your swing and seeing where you need to make changes to improve.

A few years ago I starting taking notes on my phone after a lesson, listing the faults. changes and drills I needed to improve, Its interesting how the usual issues creep back into my swing, unless maybe I don't fully address them, as I referred to my notes from previous lessons I'd possibly wouldn't need so many lessons!!!
  5. David,

I watch the occasional YouTube or Instagram video but mainly posted by coaching specialists rather than social media content producers.
I’m also lucky in that my son is a PGA coach and I have ‘free’ advice on tap…

Club Professional for me. I started pulling shots left, I could not work out what I was doing, I arranged an "on course" lesson and lo and behold after one hole our Pro advised that I had started aiming left of my intended target. It sometimes pays to have a pair of experienced eyes actually there with you watching exactly what you are doing.

For big fixes I see my club pro but I do like some of the tips that are out there. I saw a Trillium Rose tip for chipping which helped me out recently.
  9. I take a bit of everything from you tube videos

Make mental notes and go practice. Some work some don’t

    Great Question
It seems to be alot of youtube videos some work some don't .
For me it would be in person with an club professional.

I enjoy watching the short game videos from a few channels but if I wanted to really get down to working on something it’s definitely with a pro.

I feel talking to a Pro and allowing him to see your swing makes life a lot easier.

    Great question tho Neil.
