With a 52 degree W2, the empiric answer will be a 56.  Vokey offers you S/M/F grinds to match to your game and typical turf/sand conditions.  If you qualify as a digger and play on soft soil/sand conditions, then the 14 degree F is for you.

Seeking professional advice is worth it if you get the best shaft/grind/loft for your game the first time.

  3. thank you, i was thinking the same with the 56, gives me more of a gap. i am more of a sweeper,( don't take divots) so i am thinking the 56.14 M ? your thoughts?

Empirically speaking, I would look at the 56 M grind.  I'm a sweeper and I almost never see dry, fluffy (fine) sand.  If I did, I might consider the S.  I haven't been fit for wedges but will be looking at my current wedges once I can find a dry bunker.  I have Spin-Milled 48-54-58 with a 45 PW.  Have to compare the non-conforming groves to SM5 with the newer balls, and maybe look at going with 3 wedges, dropping the PW.

F grind is the only option for the 56.14. If your a sweeper; consider the SM5 56.10 in S or M
  6. i was fitted for the 714 ap1 with nippon shafts. it was recommended that i also do the 54.14 sm5 based on my fitting. i ordered the extra W2 wedge in my 714's. to go with my 6-pw, and W. i know the W is 48 and W2 is 52. thats where i think i threw myself off. should i not go with a W2 and stick with the W @ 48 and 54.14 that i was fit at? i am affraid that i am leaving a gap at around 100 yards?

thank you everyone for your comments and help.

    Brian,

I have the 714 Ap1's also through W1 (48*). I felt like the PW/48/52/56/60 was too many wedges and limited my choices in fairway woods. So I just dropped the 3 wedges and went to a 54 SM5 bent to 53 (F grind)and a TVD K 58*. This gives me 5* between my W1/53/58. Very excited about it. I went higher bounce also to experiment a little. I can get a little diggy at times. Every move I have made has been towards more forgiving lately and it is paying off. Shot my first even par round this past Sunday! :)

48 and 54.14 isn't an unmanageable gap at all.   That should be about 15 yards.   I use 48-06, 54-11 and 60-10 all bent 1* strong with a stock 64-07.  Yardages are 105, 85, 65 and 50 with full swing.   If I need 95, I choke down 1/2" on the 48 or 1" on the 9 iron.  I learned how to work the PW in 2009 because I played with a do it yourself set of iron that had only 47 PW and 55 SW.  I pitch about 80 with 48-06 and about 60 with 54-11.

I took out the 60-10 and replaced it with 58-06.

  10. i ordered the 714 ap1 from 6-p, and also the W. which is 48*. i also ordered the SM5 54.14.  i am going to take these to the range to get my yardages, and if needed i am going to add the 58-06 to finish the set. I am hoping the 48* will fill my 100 yard distance if i choke down.  thanks for all your help. i will post my results.

The 58-06 is a great club.  I'm also thinking, since I have room, to retain the 60-10 also.

56 degree would make more sense. Your W2 in that model is 52 degrees.
  13. thank you for your input. i will go with the 56. thats kinda what i was thinking.

you should definitely buy a 56°, just try to find the right bounce, if you are sure about a 14° bounce, you shouldn't hesitate buying a 56/14
