Any suggestions on which I should do. I have Vokey SM4's in 50, 52, 54, and and 56 which are all 8 degree full grinds.  I also have a 60/7 S grind. My pitching wedge is a MB 712 bent to 46 degrees. I'm pretty steep and aggressive with all my wedges and the conditions I play out here in Idaho are mostly medium to firm.  For distance gap consistency, I want to gap my wedges at 51, 55, and 60 (so the 60 is already no issue). Question is should I go from stronger to weaker to weaker to stronger??  I'm thinking stronger to weaker to get 1 more degree of bounce in the 50 an 54. I may also trade my 60/7 s grind to a new SM5 60/11 K grind. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the question.

Being that you are a digger and more aggressive, it sounds like bending your current 50 and 54 to 51 and 55 would be your best option. If you have a tendency to miss it fat, the extra degree of bounce should help.

As for the S Vs. K grind in the 60, it is always best to see a local fitter and try both out, but the increased bounce and sole width of the K grind should help reduce the amount of fat misses.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you Bubba. Another option I am toying with (and you can tell I like to toy, with all the wedges I have) is changing out my 54/8 Full for a SM5 54/11 K and still have it bent to a 55. I use my 54 (55) primarily for the green-side bunkers and feel I could benefit from more bounce. What are your thought on that?

    Hi Mike,

The 54 K is available in our wedge works line, it is not available in the stock, SM5 line. As for the performance of a 54 K bent to 55, the added bounce could prove to be valuable from green side bunkers. Remember to look at the conditions you typically play in and take into account what your misses are. If you have any tendency to catch those shots fat, I would consider going with more bounce.

As always, it is best to try the wedge first.

    Hope this helps.

Yes. My bad. After I submitted my post I realized that the 54 doesn’t come in a K grind. What I meant was 54/14 full grind. I believe that would complete my wedges with good yardage gaps with the 50/8 full --> 51, the 54/14 -->55, and keep my 60/7 S for lobs, flops and shot making. And yes, when I miss, they are usually chunks. Thank you very much for your helpful suggestions.

My pleasure. Please let me know if you have any other questions along the way.

Bubba, if you could please chime in here because I'm having a bad case of second guessing and I am unable to decide which route to take. I play 3 wedges not including my 46 degree pitch and this was my original plan: 1) keep my SM4 50/8 full which is bent to 51 degrees giving my 9 degrees of bounce, 2) buy a 56/14 full grind and bend it to 55 degrees giving me a 13 degrees of bounce, and lastly, 3) buy a 60/8 M for flops and around the green shot making stuff. My dilemma is I am re-think my 56 degree. Would it be better to get a 54/10 M grind and bend that to 55? My 55 is what is use for my go to 95 -105 yard full swing approach shots and for most greenside bunkers. I am afraid that if I went the 56/14 way, 13 degrees of bounce might be over-doing it for the full swing fairway approach shots since I tend to come in pretty steep. Would the 54 --> 55 M grind be a better choice with more versatility? Please help me if you can. Much appreciation.

    Hi Mike,

You mentioned you tend to come in steep on your approach shots from the fairway. If your miss tends to be fat, I would promote more bounce Vs. less bounce. Yes, the M grind would offer more versatility than the F grind; however, if you do not use your 56 around the greens and for open flop shots, the versatility will not help you. Considering you also use your 56 from the bunker, I would promote more bounce in this club.

Without telling you to purchase something without ever seeing you hit any of the wedges, it sounds like the 56.14 bent to 55 is your best bet. But try to get to a local fitter and hit each club first.

    Hope this helps.
