Can you explain the proper bounce we should be looking for in a wedge? Also will it vary from wedge to wedge? ie.... 52, 56, 60?

    Hi Chuck,

    Thanks for the post.

The proper bounce angle for a wedge is really player and condition dependent. If a player is steep on the ball and tends to miss it fat, they would likely need more bounce. Vice versa for a golfer who picks the ball and tends to miss it thin. Course conditions are also a big factor, typically softer conditions require more bounce Vs. firmer conditions.

As for consistent bounce throughout the set, it all depends. Some individuals prefer both a high and low bounce option in their 56 and 60. Some people need low bounce or high bounce in every wedge.

My best suggestion would be to see a local fitter and try the different grinds and bounces out.

    Hope this helps.

To agree with Bubba, if you have really wet springs and really dry late summers with clay soils, you might need an extra wedge to swap based on course conditions. My 54 has more bounce than my 58, and is used in softer bunkers. Really wet bunkers with not great sand will get the 58. But these are both in the bag.
