Typically more bounce is better for soft conditions and/or a digger swing type. I have had a lot of success fitting people in to the K grind that are wanting something more forgiving, especially in green side bunkers. In the SM5 the K grind comes in the 58 degree or the 60 degree. Ultimately, seeing an authorized fitter is the best way of choosing the bounce and grind that will fit your game.

My question will be a bit off of the post above, but it is a question that no one has been able to answer for me.  I too have a digger type of swing, or at least I think I do.  I tend to hit a bunch of my iron shots fat.  I do this with my 5 iron down to my PW.  I use the AP1 2008 model which has low bounce.  I also have a SM4 gap wedge that was a 50-12 but I turned it down to a 49-11 and I don't hit that fat hardly at all.  So as you said in your response that more bounce is better for soft conditions and/or a digger swing type, I was wondering why the current AP1's also have such low bounce?  As I am a Titleist fan I want to stay here but I have noticed that the new png G 30s have a lot more bounce in them.  What Titleist iron would you suggest for a digger like me?  Thanks.

Thanks for the question. 

There are four main factors that go into measuring effective bounce. The actual measured bounce angle, the sole width, how much heel and toe relief is on the club and camber. As an example, let's say a club has a lot of measured bounce (10 degrees) yet has a very narrow sole. That club may actually have less effective bounce than a club that has 8 degrees of measured bounce with a wide sole. This is why the AP1 is sometimes more forgiving for diggers. If you tend to hit your AP1's a little heavy, I would try some different lengths, or even try the AP2's.
