Hi, I'm in the market for a very low bounce lob wedge and currently carry a 52 and 56 degree SM5 and was looking at the 60/4.  A few folks, including a club fitter, have suggested the miz MP-T5 59/5 has a lower effective bounce due to a thiner sole.  I'm wondering if that's the case and would appreciate any views. Thanks

    Jack,

Are you speaking of bounce or are you looking for a really low leading edge that you can open up?  As it relates, if you are playing off of really tight lies and hard/firm fairways then something lower bounce is a great option.  Now, you have to assess how you're playing the shot (mostly).  Do you square-up the face most of the time or do you like to open it up?  If you intend to square the face on most shots then the Vokey SM5 S or L grind will be great for you (I'm not a huge fan of the M grind).  They have low leading edges and set very well behind the ball at square and slightly open.  They Vokey leading edge tends to rise the more you open the face.  If you like to really open the face to hit a flop shot or the like off tight lies then the miz MP T5 is your best option here.  The T5 has better heel and toe relief and the leading edge remains low to the ground even when opened-up.

In my opinion, this is where "EFFECTIVE" bounce comes in.  So ask yourself how you normally play the shots and how you manipulate the face and you should have your answer...
