  1. Hi,

I'm currently using an AP2 712 with a Shimada K's7001 shafts (regular) for all my irons, these are very lightweight shafts, I got them AP2 custom fitted for me. Recently my friend handed me a couple of Vokeys (56 and 52), i'm loving the feel thru impact and the spin however the DG is wayyy heavier than my iron shafts, which affects my "finesse" wedge swing :P

I would prefer to have my wedges to be slightly lighter than my irons (for better feel and control, bcoz i dont hit them full power) but i'm wondering if anyone had ever used a Vokey with such a light shaft (around 90gm)?

How does it feel? Whats the ball flight like?

    Thanks

    A.

    Valaurie,

    Hello,

Got a 46°/8 Vokey SM5 Black replacing my PW, 50°, 54°, 58° and 62° SM5 Black wedges, depending the course I may also use a 56° instead of 54/58 to stay in the 14 club limit, (yes, got 6 wedges ;-).

All of those are equipped with a KURO CAGE 65 shaft, 1/2 " shorter and with stiff flex. Have a very good feeling with those, good backspin and very high flight.

I placed a special order at a Titlelist fitter, I factory changed the grips for Golf Pride new decade whiteout grips different from my AP2s blackout which also is KURO CAGE 65 minus 1/2", but with regular flex (I'm pretty small, 1,72 m and 60 years old next year).

This makes sense to me, my wedges are stiff, but lighter than standard clubs. I used to play with regular SM4 52 and 58 before I decided to move to SM5, those were a bit too heavy, I thought, I sold them without regrets.

The best club is the one you're confident with... And with this weird configuration I am.

    Greetings from France, Pascal.

The Titleist fitter (listed as one of the top ones in the country for Titleist) said that the wedge should be the same shaft as the irons. No changes. He gave me soft regular Nippon steel shafts in the AP1s, and then the same Nippon soft R shaft in the SM4 wedges. BTW, I am 63 with an 84 mph swing speed. A 3 handicap. I can tell you that they feel much better (weight and impact) than the stock S200. Those are very heavy compared with the iron shafts. Quite a difference which would affect the swing tempo and how hard to hit the pitch/chip/sand shot. Most people say that softer shafts will wiggle around, but I haven't experienced that at all. You're not swinging a driver here. All these swings are controlled short swings.
