Vokey Shaft Length Question

  1. Last summer I was fit for AP2 714 irons (4-W) by my local Titleist professional. He also had me get two Vokey's, a 54 F and a 58 K, with the standard wedge flex shaft. Although the AP2's are great, I continue to struggle with the Vokey's...always either scalding them or chunking dirt, rarely making clean contact. For the AP2's, I was fit with XP 95 S300 shafts with an added .5" length over my old clubs (Tour Edge Bazooka HT Max). I think one of the main reasons I have so much trouble with the Vokey's is that they are .75" shorter than my AP2 gap wedge (AP2 W = 36", Vokey = 35.25"). Should I consider having the Vokey shafts changed to be longer and possibly use the same XP 95 S300 shaft as in AP2's since I like them so much?

Hi Ryan,  If you are using the 54 or the 58 for full shots, matching both the length and the shaft would be a good idea.  It will help keep a consistent feel from your irons to your wedges.

I was fitted with Project X 6.0 1/2 inch longer.  My Vokey wedges are standard and I hit the 714's great but have had a hard time with the wedges. Should I get them re shafted with the same shaft with the 1/2 inch longer?  My last set were longer and I hit them very well.

  4. Jerry,

I ended up adding 1" to each Vokey with a shaft extender.  I realize this isn't as good as replacing the entire shaft, but it definitely solved the issue that I first posted in this thread.  Before I was having trouble hitting them regardless of whether I was taking a full or partial swing, but now they blend seamlessly with my 714's.

Match your wedge shafts to those thats in your irons for consistency
