I believe the raw black replaced the oil can.  I havent heard that its going to make a return.  If you want a wedge to rust, the raw black will rust like the oilcan did because its unplated.  If you just like the look, the gold nickle is a good option.

Amen!  I'm a huge fan of the Oil Can finish.  The Gold Nickel is cool, but it's got nothing on the Oil Can.   I hope they bring it back.  If they do, I'll reload my entire wedge quiver 

i wish scotty/vokey would bring back the oil can finishes as well.

I too have been a long time oil can guy and am disappointed they discontinued the finish with sm5. The raw black sm5 is nice but just not the same. I'm still gaming my sm4 oil can's hoping that it will come back.

The feedback they receive from players is truly invaluable, and they are curious what aspects of the oil can finish you liked / miss the most? Was it the appearance? The way the finish wore? Did you find it rusted in a different way than our current Raw Black?

Thanks so much for the interest Chris! I liked oil can for the full rusted look so I'm a fan of the raw version as well. Raw Black doesn't appear to fully rust (I've seen many discussions on how to strip the finish). I've been using "rusted" wedges since the early 90s. For me it's primarily a cosmetic thing. I do think they wear better however as well. I practice with wedges a lot and tend to wear through the chrome on the tour chrome versions pretty quickly. I can't stand the look of the worn out sweet spot and sole on tour chrome. Raw/oil can, however creates a nice worn look and tends to blend with the rust depending out how much you are practicing. I know you are offering SM5 in raw on wedgeworks.com but not all my wedges are offered (I use 4 vokey wedges: 48, 52, 56, 60). Please go back to 3 options for SM6: tour chrome, raw/oil can, black nickel or black raw. Also, I am a long time user of the 60M grind. I much prefer the old standard 10 degree bounce vs the new 8 degree bounce. Can you bring back the 10 degree version?

I will speak for the majority percentage of real wedge enthusiasts out there: We want RAW wedges! The oil can is the next best thing, since it comes off easily. The raw black finish (QPQ treatment) makes the head brittle and a challenge to bend. If you have to have a black finish, bring back the blk ox. Offer a raw finish for special order customers at similar price point, and  keep the QPQ, PVD, other plated finishes on the retail end. With that said, good job on offering some SM5 models in Raw.

As much as I liked the Oil Can finish, I find that I actually prefer the Raw Black.

I actually liked the initial looks of the brown club head, but as the finish on the club face began to wear, I would strip the oil can finish to leave me with a completely raw wedge. Although it may sound like a juxtaposition, I stripped the SM4 Oil Can raw because of the feel I would get, not because it rusted. I always dried my wedges to prevent rust from developing, and if rust did show, I would scrub it off. I played the SM4 Chrome, SM5 Chrome and Raw Black, but for some reason the oil can feels softer, but I don't know why.
