I will swap out wedges in my bag to play a different bounce angle depending on where I'm playing and/or the course condition. If I swap out one club for another though the sole grind is fairly similar if not the same. As an example I will switch between a 58 degree L grind with 4 degrees of bounce and a 58 degree M grind with 8 degrees of bounce. With the exception of the most extreme conditions (playing an extremely hard or soft course) I will always carry a spectrum of bounce angles in the wedge set that I carry for the day. I believe this is a good approach and provides versatility to address different lies and make shots around the course. I'm having a change in my thinking though and considering not the bounce angle but the sole grind, specifically the width and camber of the sole. My thinking has been shifted because it seems that it seems that it isn't necessarily the bounce angle that helps or hurts me in my ability to make the shot but rather the grind and the width of the sole. Realistically if the grind allows I can use as much or as little of the bounce angle as I need. For this reason I'm interested in the K grind. I haven't experimented yet with it but from what I can tell the grind, sole width and camber of the sole would be very versatile and the grind would dictate more of the shots you can make with the club than the bounce angle. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as well as any feedback or experience using one grind/bounce vs. another and whether it is the grind or bounce that contributes to the playing characteristics of the wedge.

  2. Jonathan, you are correct in your thinking that camber and sole grind/width of the sole are as important as bounce...I find that softer courses though the K grind is perfect if you are a digger however is you are a sweeper then this might not be the best set up IMHO.

It sounds like you prefer the M grind which is a great all around sole grind...I would stay with what you are playing with however you could always visit an advanced fitter by Titleist and have a wedge fitting which would give you specific answers to your dilemma..

    Have fun!
