Have been playing a SM5 58* K grind for 3 months and it is great. I feel like I have it 90% figured out with the exception of standard bunker shots.

For those who also play the standard bounce K grind do you open the face or play it square out of the sand? Obviously this is a matter of preference but I'm curious to see what the consensus is.

I play it open if ball is sitting up and closed a bit if the ball is settled into the sand. Works for me in both instances.

I just picked up my new SM6 wedges this past weekend. I haven't been in a bunker yet over the last 36 holes since I started gaming them, but I anticipate using my new 58.12 K Grind lob wedge for most greenside bunker shots rather than my new 54.10 S Grind sand wedge. I will typically open for shorter shots and play it only a touch open for much longer shots, depending on the sand conditions. The bounce and wide cambered sole on the K grind should be fantastic for soft, fluffy sand with the face opened up a bit.

For harder sand, I'm not sure yet. Before my next round, there is a two hour short game practice session on the agenda to help me get more comfortable with the new lofts, bounces and grinds. I probably should have schedule that practice before I played those two rounds, but I couldn't wait to try the SM6s out.

I play a SM5 K grind currently and depending on the shot, I would generally have the face open for a standard bunker shot. When I first got the wedge, it definitely took some getting used to in the sand. I found that moving the ball forward in my stance a little more helped. I never lay it completely flat but just slightly open the face. Hope that helps.
