    Hi Team Titleist,

    The new Vokey SM6 wedges have hit golf shops, just in time for the new season. An amazing amount of technology has gone into these new products, from revolutionary progressive CG designs through the wedge set and TX4 grooves, to the wide range of grind and bounce options that will allow every player to find the ideal short game combination for their swing type and course conditions.

    Aloha Bob from Hawaii,

    I am currently gaming your TVD SM4's in the 50 and 56 degree M grind. While I can consistently ball strike the 50 degree in the center, the 56 degree seems to slide open when at impact when the sole meets the turf.

    Can you recommend which SM6 56 degree grind might alleviate the sliding of the clubhead open? I tend to take shallow divots and play in firm to normal conditions. I have historically played with low bounce wedges.

    Gunnar,

    Selecting wedges is all about your swing type first, and then course conditions. It’s also important based on how you use each club. Is your 56° mostly a full swing club? Or is this your all around greenside wedge? Same for the 60°, is this strictly a bunker club? If you have a steeper swing, taking a larger divot, I’d favor more bounce. If you’re more of a sweeper, shallow swinger, perhaps mid bounce. Being in the northeast, with wet spring & fall, I would always favor a bit more bounce. It’s always best to hit the grinds side by side to determine the best fit for your game. Make sure to hit the shots that you know each wedge has to hit.

    Mahalo Jay, very hard to say what may be going on. Your best bet is to have a local golf pro and wedge fitter evaluate your strike. If I had to guess, you could go right into our sm6 52.08 F and sm6 56.08 m grind. On your sm4 56 it sounds like the toe is contacting the turf first. Which would open the face of the wedge. This could be caused by the lie being too flat. Also an over the top swing could cause the toe of the club to dig. A toe deep divot pattern and misses moving right are a definite indication of a lie that is too flat.

    The Nippon Modus3 wedge shaft is approved and available in our custom options book, similar to the Modus irons shafts. You can order SM6 today through your local golf shop. This is true of all custom irons shafts. All of these shafts are available at wedge lengths.

    The SM6 M Grind was influenced by the TVD M in a variety of ways, including the profile shape and grind shape. Most of our tour players that previously played TVD M have transitioned into the SM6 M with great success.

    Hi, Nolan.

    With any grind, the best selection takes place by hitting all of them side by side. In the SM6 60°, we have 4 options: L, M, S & K. However, if you’re looking specifically for bunker play, the K Grind is a great option.

    This is hard to say, the V Grind is quite unique. If you like the V for full shots, and the heel & toe relief, you may prefer our M Grind. If you prefer the V Grind because of the high bounce from the bunker, you should try the K. Also, stay tuned to WedgeWorks, we have a great season of unique grinds and finishes coming soon.

    I read that the Voke recommends a sub-flex shaft in the SW/LW as compared to a player's irons/PW/GW shaft. What would be the sub-flex to a TT Dynamic Gold AMT R300 shaft?

    Similar to S200 being a great option for DG S300 AMT, we’d recommend an R200.

    I've always used what I think you'd term a digger swing a 3/4 backswing then drive down and through divot I Think I control my spin on most shots I play golf in different turf conditions varying from firm Florida to lush soft Michigan and Tennessee grasses I'm currently a 3.7 handicap Which of your grinds would pay best varied conditions or do I need different grinds for different turf conditions? I Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide

    I always fit for swing type first. Your swing travels with you while the course conditions don’t. Most of our tour players keep the same set regardless of the event. If you know you are a digger, I suggest more bounce. In the gap wedge, favor the 12° bounce model. In the Sand Wedge, best to hit all 3 grinds, but you may favor the F grind. And for lob wedges, K grind is our highest bounce offering.

    I've heard a lot about the Titleist SM6 range. I'm really curious about what makes the SM6 and other Titleist clubs so demanding. I'm looking at a bunch of wedges to buy and should I be willing to pay that much to buy an SM6 when I can get other wedges for better prices. Convince me!

    Three key reasons to go with SM6. First, progressive center of gravity makes these wedges different from anything on the market. The CG position is precisely aligned based on loft (lower in the low lofts, mid CG in the sand wedges, and high CG in the lob wedges) to deliver better distance control, trajectory control and improved feel. In addition, I’ve been working hard to fine tune our grinds, listening to the best players in the world, as well as club professionals and amateurs. I think we have a wedge to fit any player. Finally, we have improved our grooves. The Spin Milled process gives us outstanding quality, and the new parallel face texture provides increased spin. The proof however, is in experiencing the product. Find a local fitter and you can feel the difference and see the performance for yourself.

    I recently got a new Vokey to replace my old 64 degree. There did not seem to be a new 64 degree wedge, so I asked my friends at Team Titleist to replace it with an appropriate SM6 based on my Tour Fitting data. They sent a 62 degree with an M grind. After playing a few times, it does seem to work similarly to my 64, but I am wondering why the 64 was abandoned in the SM6 line.

    We reduced our line up and removed the 64° wedge because I believe most players can utilize a 58° or 60° wedge to create the necessary shots around the green. However, some players prefer more loft, which is why we have the 62°. We’re glad you are happy with the 62°. If you’d like, we can always bend that wedge to be 64°. Also, we periodically offer unique lofts and grinds through WedgeWorks. In April we featured a 64° T Grind.

    Bounce continues to be confusing to me. Especially which bounce to use on wedges used from the fairway and/or rough. These are shots usually used from distances between 50-80 yards.

    Bounce and Grind can be confusing. The best way to choose the right bounce is to hit your trouble shot with a variety of wedges and determine which grind helps you. A good wedge fitting should accomplish a few key goals, maintain your ‘go to’ shot, while also improving any trouble shots in your game.

    Hi voke, I play links courses here in Scotland where we get tight greenside lies which need low bounce but the beach sand is very soft and heavy needing lots of bounce which lob wedge would you recommend? I watched a video of Arron Dill talk about reducing the bounce on a k grind for the titleist staffersfor these situation when the play the Open.

    Hi Martin, thanks for the question. Those are definitely tough conditions. The L Grind is our lowest bounce offering, but if you need some help from soft bunkers, you may be a perfect candidate for the low bounce K Grind. The Low Bounce K offers the low bounce for the turf, but the wide, cambered sole of the K grind. We put a lot of these in play each year during the Open Championship: www.vokey.com/.../k-grind.aspx

    All SM6 wedges can be customized today at your local golf shop. The shop can help you stamp up to 8 characters, choose your own shaft band or BV Wings Grip. WedgeWorks is where we offer unique lofts, grinds and finishes, and does not include the core SM6 lineup.

    Hi, Cole.

    If the KBS HiRev fits your game, then I think pairing that shaft with SM6’s is a great combination. Shaft is about feel and performance. Some players love the KBS High Rev, which is why we make it available on WedgeWorks as well as through all golf shops for custom order. If this is your preferred wedge shaft, I think you’ll be very happy adding that to your SM6 wedges.

    I buy two 60 degree / 7 bounce every year. One for my practice sessions (I hit around 200 chips a day) and the other one for when I play. I have the new SM6 and it feels heavier this year than last years model. Is that just my imagination or has the weight distribution changed? Love the new wedge as I have the previous years models.

    Mr. Vokey, I play the 54 and 60 degree Vokey wedges. I mainly use the 54 degree from the fairway, and bunker. I'm currently using 10 degrees of bounce on the 54 degree, and we have very tight fairways. I have a fairly steep downswing from the fairway. My 60 degree has 4 degrees bounce, and use it for shots from 85 yds to 35 yds from the fairway.

    ON your new wedges, would you suggest a different bounce on these two wedges. The lofts fit well with my yardage spacing.

    Not so much a question but a statement. Titleist is the undisputed leader in everything golf related, at least in my experience. Their professionalism and quality is a step above any other golf company.
