I've just ordered 716 ap1 and two new wedges (54/60) I already have 50 degree Wegde

Do people think the gapping between 43 degrees pitch and 50 gap wedge is too much ?

  2. Paul, I think 6 or 7 degrees is fine...I do the same with my set and have not had any issues with gaps...in fact I prefer it to the 5 degrees I used to play!

Cheers Chris just wasn't sure if the 43 would be strong to my 46

Guess gaping is a personal choice. Recently ordered the W wedge for my AP1 set and hoping it will be here this week. That will give me the 43, 47, SM6 50.8, SM6 56.14 in my game set. Also have a 54.08 that I can rotate in and out of the bag. Am getting acquainted with the new clubs and those AP1 clubs are strong.

You may even find there isn't much difference between the 50 and 54 if they are both F-grinds and the same bounce. There are other variables in how you use the clubs, but you could decide to make the PW one degree weak and/or the 50 one degree strong. Needs to be in context with how you use the 2 clubs and the distance from the 9-PW and the 50-54 wedges. I had a distance gap with a 9I and 48 SM5. Solved it with an AP1 PW and a 52 SM6. The SM6 is actually 3-5 yards longer than the 48 SM5.

Since everybody hits their clubs a little differently, I think you really need to see how the gapping on your distances is with the new setup. I would hit the AP1 wedges and your Vokeys out on the range to ensure you have a proper gapping from a distance perspective. If your setup allows you to have a relatively even spacing between clubs and gives you the ability to hit the ball any distance in that range, you should be good to go. Enjoy the new clubs!
