SM6 Lob Wedge: Which Grind should I choose?

  1. Hey there

I want to add a 60° lob wedge to my current two wedges but I am struggling with the different types of grinds and bounces. Currently, I play a SM4 52.08 (F-Grind) and a SM4 56.11 (M-Grind), which I both like. The reason why I am looking for a lob wedge is, that I want more versatility around the greens.

I am a beginner, so I don't know much about Grinds and Bounce. I would say that my swing type is neutral/steep. The conditions in my homeclub are mostly soft and wet during winter. In summer the conditions are changeable but rather soft than firm.

My question is, which Grind (M or K) suits best for me and the course conditions described. Unfortunately, I could only test the SM6 60.08 M-Grind. So I couldn't really compare the diffrent Grinds. Nevertheless, I really liked the M-Grind for chipping and pitching even if it was not too easy to get the ball out of the bunker (sand was wet and heavy). When I read that the M-Grind suits players with a shallow swing type and firm conditions I got confused. I wonder if the SM6 60.12 K-Grind would fit me better and if it would be the better choice for the conditions in my homeclub.

Is there anyone who plays golf in similar conditions? Which experiences do you have with the K or M Grind? Would the M Grind be a good Allrounder Lob Wedge or would you prefer the K Grind in my situation?

I used to play a 60.07. I thought I liked the lower bounce angle for thin lies. However, after trying different grinds and bounces I now play a 58.12 K grind. Best wedge I have ever used in a bunker and have no problem off tight lies with it. The added bounce and wider sole also seems to make it much better from the rough. Excellent in softer conditions, but I have had no issues with it in firm conditions either. I play an F grind 50* gap wedge and an S grind 54* sand wedge (which I rarely, if ever, use from greenside bunkers). I do like the S grind for chipping, pitching and full shots, and I also use the 50* GW for longer, uphill chips and full distance shots, but I can do more with the K grind 58 than I ever realized before having it in my bag. All my wedges are SM6 versions. I'm a steeper-neutral swinger. I usually take a good divot forward of the ball.
  3. The k grind is great out of the bunker and around the greens, especially in the wet conditions you describe. The k grind will also suit your neutral digger swing type.

I play sm6 60./8 Mgrind I love great from pretty much any lie. Depending on your go to shoot around the green will make all the differents.Your best bet is to contact a local Titleist fit center and they can give you exactly what you need. And at $150 I would take full advantage. Lol
  5. Speaking from experience, I wouldn't get a low bounce if your grass is bermuda or tight grass. I learned the hard way, while on business in Florida, the low bounce 60, does not like low bounce. I'm looking at changing my 60 to a higher bounce after this season.

Do yourself a favour and get fitted. You can only know for sure by getting properly fitted. Good Luck
