  1. i am looking to get a new set of sm6 wedges. i play project x 6.0 in my irons and was wondering if i should match up shafts or go with something a bit softer? the only wedge i will hit full is my 51 degree, the 55 and 59 are both used for just partial shots. i have a high swing speed and like a low trajectory with my wedges. i currently play dg s400 in my cleveland rtx 2.0, but i have lost a lot of feel and my wedge game has gone down hill. i dont have the time to get fitted and i am left handed which makes it very difficult anyway. any help would be great cheers

    Hi Ebby,

That's a great question and everyone will say to go to an authorized fitter to get fit for the correct shaft, even for wedges.

You mentioned that you play a project X 6.0 in your irons, everyone is different, but these are just some things that I've noticed. "Most" people tend to play a softer shaft in their wedges because as you mentioned, you are hitting more partial shots and "feel" shots, so they go with something with a little less flex, so say a Project X 5.5.

For example: Rory McIlroy plays the Project X 7.0 in his irons and plays the PX 6.5 in his wedges. Other players that play TT X100 in their irons tend to play TT S400 in their wedges.

But again, this all depends on you, your game and what is the best feeling for you. There are so many shafts out there, that you might not match with a PX shaft for your wedges, you might with with the S400 or might even go lighter and go S200.

Let us know what you get and how you like the new wedges.

I did this. I play KBS tour shafts in all my irons. And a 54 and 58 Vokeys. I ordered the 54 with KBS and left the 58 stock. The only thing I didn't think about was swingweight. wedges typically have a higher swingweight than irons. The KBS shafts produce a lighter swingweight so I ended up adding led tape to get the swingweight back to were it should be. Other than that it works great for me.

A wedge fitting is the way to go! Every shaft is different and the way you load and unload the club affects the performance. As echoed in this thread, its about feel and getting the ball to do what you'd like it to do. There are many things you can do to shafts to make them fit your game profile. If you bent on matching shafts, you could always soft-step the shaft and adjust grips options for optimal feel and performance.

I have S300's in my irons (AP2) and have a stock wedge flex sm4 52* and a S200 in my 58* sm4. I love the feel of having a heavier swing weight with my wedges as compared to my irons and this setup delivers that for me. It is all preference though.
