  1. Just took delivery of AP716 (4-PW)with XP95 S300 shafts and loving them. My questions are if I was to invest in vokey wedges 1. What would be the best combination of 3 wedges to buy? and 2. Should I get them with the same shafts I have in my irons?

I have the 716 AP1, with the same shaft as you. I have the 50.12 F Grind, 54.10 S grind and 58.08 M grind. I also have a 46 F grind on order. I was hitting them today and they feel great. I'd recommend hitting some before you buy them and see what suits you the best.

A couple different things to think about: 1. How many clubs do you have in your bag (if you play competitively) can only have 14 total. 2. What gaps do you have in your distances. I would say pretty common setup for wedges are 52* 56* and 60* but again can vary depending on your club limits and gaps you might have. 54* and 60* with you using your pitching wedge to fill the gap between your PW and 54* wedge is another setup I see work for people. I personally use 48* vokey as my pitching wedge then 52 vokey, 56 vokey and 60 vokey, it is my ideal setup. I figure your scoring clubs are your 150 yard irons and in.
Shafts: I would get the same as your 4-PW I am not sure if you can get the XP95's but definitely the S300 flex which will be called wedge flex.

If you have enough room in your bag, I'd recommend keeping the 4° gapping and getting a 47gap, 51sw, and 55lw. You would have to have them bent more likely than not though, these are atypical lofts. I would keepnthe same shafts. My wedge shafts are the same as my irons. Just my opinion though. GL

I have the XP90 R300 shafts in my 716's. I got the 5-52AW in my 716 AP1 set & then a Vokey 56 degree with the same shaft. I'm still thinking about getting a 52 degree Vokey. My Titleist fitter strongly suggested I use the same shaft with my wedge(s)

As for combination the PW is 47 so I'd get a 52, 56 & a 60 in the Vokey if you wanted a 60 degree wedge.

The PW is 43 degrees. How do you use wedges? For full shots? Partial swings? What distance gaps do you need to fill? What soil conditions do you typically play? What is the typical sand consistently you see in bunkers? Do you have room for 2 or 3 more wedges? Do you use a 60 degree lob wedge? All questions a good fitter would ask you. What I would use in Wisconsin is different than someone in Arizona would use for bounce/loft. Most fitters recommend the same shaft in wedges typically used for full swings.

**First I would recommned spending the extra money and get fit for wedges. I play 714 AP2 fitted on Nippon S. 950GH 5-PW + GW Reg and SM5 56deg M Grind and SM5 60deg K Grind fitted on Nippon/Titleist 105T Stiff

During my wedge fitting was fit in 2 wedges a 56 and 60, as my 56 is my primary wedge under 100 yards in and i can work with it from full shots to pitches. My 60 is my pitch and bunker club. The fitter fit me in the same brand but stiffer and heavier shaft (105 Grams). My other 2 wedges I use are both full swing clubs AP2 PW and AP2 GW 50 degree...being my full swing wedges, or chipping wedges. I was fit in same shafts as my whole set (95 gram, in reg stiffness).

Hey Clark! I'll say this.. I got fitted last summer for the AP1 716 as well as the SM6 and the shafts are not the same..

As for the combination and i'm no expert, just giving my opinion... If you're going to get 3 and you already have the PW.. I would go 48, 54, 60.. Just my thought BUT get fitted if you have the time...

It depends on your distance gapping. I would see a certified Titleist fitter and get data. We all could suggest what we would use but ultimately it depends on your distance gapping. You'll get the right shaft/grip/club combination then.

Wedges are a person preference. I got the W that comes with the AP1 set and love it, then have the 50.10 and 56.14 Vokey with F grinds. Suggest getting fitted for them, because you would want the same lie and length configuration, plus correct grind. Also, definitely get the same shafts as your irons.
  11. Congrats on your new irons!

As far as which three to get it depends on your game, sorry...however as far as shafts go I would consider the same shafts you currently are playing. This will promote consistency throughout your set IMHO.

I do the same with my set albeit occasionally I put a heavier shaft in my lob wedge.
  12. I have 716cb irons and my PW is 47*. My Vokeys I got fitted for and went with 50,54 and 58* with different grinds. Stayed with the stock shaft S200 as I didn't notice much of a difference between other shafts. Hopefully you can get fitted and feel the difference between the shafts.
  13. Thanks guys, you all have given me lots to think about. The main conclusion from all your comments, is to get fitted as I did with my irons, and try before I buy.

The 716 AP range ends in a PW of either 46 (AP2) and 43 (AP1), I would check the Vokey website for the recommendations and start from there: www.vokey.com/.../wedge-selection.aspx

I have the SM6 56 and 60 degree, with S200 shafts. My AP2's have S300 shafts, both is at 2 degree upright. The fitter at Golftown in Kelowna said that the biggest difference in shafts is the S200 is 5 grams lighter. Enjoy your Vokey wedges, they are a fantastic club.
  18. Personally with the those clubs I would probably go 48 52 and then a 58! I know you typically want only a 4 degree difference but a 58 degree is an awesome wedge with a lot of versatility!
