Nope, use vinegar. Soak for a couple of hours and wipe the finish away. Use an old toothbrush to clear out the grooves and paint fill. I did something with mine that was a fluke. After the vinegar and cleaning I soaked them in coke overnight then scrubbed them with a soft copper scouring pad (for pots and pans) and the copper transferred to the wedges making for a cool look. I posted a thread a year and a half ago for stripping SM5s with pictures. So take a look. The finish has dulled a bit over time, but they still have the copper look.

Yes, it will eventually take the finish off. If you want it done quicker use CLR cleaner. I did this to all my wedges and then torch finished them
