I play my 714 CB 47 degree PW and I prefer my 3 wedges 50, 54, and 58. I am only 3 degrees between my PW and my 50. I was considering getting fitted for a 46 Vokey. I was wondering how much of a difference does the one degree make and if it was even worth it? I am pretty good at using all my wedges to get the distances I want, but I'm an endless tinkerer. I would love to hear what everyone thinks about a 47 or 46 for a 50, 54, and 58 wedge setup.

  2. I don't think it really matters what the degree gap between your wedges are as they are just numbers as long as you have a good consistent distance gaps. What's your distance gapping like between the wedges and between your 50* and your pw? I try and keep about 4* between wedges which gives me between 10-15 yards of gap. I play a 714mb pw bent to 46* which I hit about 130-135 yards. Then I go to a 52* at about 120-125, a 56* which has a slightly larger gap at about 105, and my 60 is about 85-90 yards.

    Brian,

I would go along with Ryan. If you are getting consistent distances with the set-up you have then maybe you shouldn't change. I think too that it depends on your handicap and if you play in any championships or the like. If you're like me you are a middle handicap and play pretty much for the fun of the game. As such I don't get too wired over one degree here or there as long as the yardages are pretty much covered. However, as a self professed tinkerer, you should also keep in mind the bounce that you're playing now. I currently have a 46* Vokey that has 8* of bounce and I turned it up to a 47* (to fit my 716 AP1 lofts) which brought the bounce up to 9*. I've found that 10* of bounce is pretty good for my game and the courses I play, so I try to keep my bounces at about that number. I don't know what the bounce is for the 714 CB PW but you might want to keep that in mind as you tinker. Good luck. Fairways and greens.

I went through the same thought process about adding 46 Vokey to replace my AP2 PW and to compliment my Vokey 50-54-58 and finally had the opportunity. After 6 months of being in the bag I'd say the difference is negligible. I've added a couple yards to the club and a little more spin, but honestly not really worth the investment unless your PW has a is showing some groove wear. Like the others said as long as you have your numbers covered and know how to hit them your well ahead of anything this change could do for you. Good luck!
