Recently, while practicing in the "short game area", working on pitch shots from 15 to 85 yards, me and a few friends got to talking about spin. We all know new wedges will provide more spin and the "Spin Milled" grooves also help create more spin. However, perhaps they spin too much on shorter pitch shots, less than 50 yards. For example, I find it easier to control how far a shot flies and let the angle of descent handle more of the stopping power. Conversely, with new wedges, one shot might spin a lot and the next not spin as much, causing a significant differential in proximity to the hole. I'm finding the wedge shots become more consistent as the grooves "soften". What have you all found?
