I have a set of 716 AP2's 5 tp P.W and a wedge setup of 50/54/58 SM7 vokey's all were custom fitted. I'm considering changing to 718 AP3's probably next year. My dilemma is the AP2 P.W is 46° so my wedge setup fits in perfectly, now the AP3 P.W is 43° giving a 7° gap to my 50°. Do I get a 46° vokey which will then only give me a gap of only 3° between AP3 P.W. & 50°. I don't want to change my weďges as they're not very old. I could look at a combination set of AP2/AP3 but then somewhere within the set I'm faced with a 5°, 6°, 7° gap. My gut tells me to just get a 46° wedge. If the AP3 lofts were a degree or two weaker then no problem. I really like Titleist equipment, but why do they have to make things complicated.

  3. Hmm... sounds like you already own a 46* that you've used and like. "If it ain't broke..."
  4. Get a 46, plain and simple.

    Hi Richard,
Great to hear you have great experience too with the Titleist clubs.
    Well the answer is simpel.

You have actually a couple options:
If you you buy the AP3 you can select custom (during buying) and select the amount of loft you require for that specific club. The reps at Titleist St. Ives will ajust the lost and weight to the fitting settings.

You can buy the AP3 pw the way it is, go to an experience club fitter and bent the club to back to 46 degrees.

But again, there is a huge difference in the AP3 series and AP2. There is a reason why they have those specific lofts. Think about swing weights, balance of the club etc. etc.

In my opinion your irons go longer then wedges. ( a tour player gets 2-3 sets of wedges a year) I think weekend golfers should at least change their wedges every 1.5 / 2 years.

    Good luck & happy swings,

    Bart
  6. I had the same issue it took me most of the year playing around with different clubs in my bag. but i ended up with the ap3 5-PW 46,50,54,58 wedges then the 818 H2 19 degree turned to 20 degrees 910 3 wood and 910 driver. the nice thing about this is you have a lot more full swing options into greens.

If you don't mind another degree of bounce, you could change the loft on your wedges to be 51/55/59. Maybe try just the 51 and see what that does, if anything for you.

You really need to see what you hit the AP3.

As far as gapping/blending a mixed set, don't forget that you can have Titleist bend them for you when you order so they are more blended. You can make the AP3 weaker or the AP2 stronger. Decide this with your fitter for best results.
