  1. Team Titleist - I would love all opinions and input:

I have ordered a set (4-P) of AP3 irons. Super excited to get them! I have been playing the DCI 96 (962 with no stamp) since 1996 and as I age (now 48 - can use some extra distance and forgiveness).

I have played 3 wedges forever (outside of the PW) 52,56,60. Since the AP3’s have stronger lifts I’m trying to get the best gaps. I have Vokey SM7 (52,56,60) wedges now and don’t want to change them. Would it be smart to have the AP3 PW bent from 43 degrees to 45 or 46 degrees to better close the gaps?

Please give your advice. Not looking to reconfigure my bag but I don’t need any help at the top end of the bag. I have the M5 driver and carry a 3 wood as well.

    Appreciate everyone’s input!

    Many thanks! Lee D.

I am told you can't bend the AP3 PW???

The gap wedge in the AP3's is 48 degrees which would fit the normal 4 degree gap.

I originally was fit for AP1 in the 5 & 6, and AP3 7-Gap (48). To match the lofts, the AP3s were all bent 1 strong, so my P is a 42 but we kept the G at a 48 to better match the rest of the wedges (SM7 52, SM6 56 and 60). The SM7 48 might be $20 cheaper than the AP3 Gap, but it doesn't look at good. ;-)

+/- 2 degrees is the max any Titleist iron can be adjusted. I've used both a 48 SM6 and a AP3 W. But I only have a 54 and 60 so I still only have 3 wedges after PW. You may want to check with a fitter for a gap fitting. You can look at your 8-9-PW distances and your 52-56 distances. Then you'll know what you need. There are many permutations of options. Working with the fitter and how you use the 43 and 52 wedges today will help define a solution. Using the traditional 52-56-60 does present a challenge with today's PW's that are no longer 47/48 degrees. PM and Lexi will use 5 wedges including PW, but they have other gears that most of us don't have at the top of the bag.
  7. Thanks Don! Appreciate your time and comments. Right now I do have the 5 wedge set up and will see how that goes. I’m good on the top end of my bag. The AP3’s are great and as we all know a club longer than what I’ve been playing. So the PW is a 9 iron etc. I’m pretty interested to see how the 5 wedge set up works. I may like it!

I ordered a set of AP3s last weekend - can't wait for them to arrive, the numbers at my fitting were phenomenal - and yep, I filled the gap between the PW and my 52° with a 48°.

Works out great for me as I did want to keep the feel and tighter control from 120yds and in. So I'm really excited to game this setup. Hope it works out great for you!

On a different note - man, the DCIs were great clubs. I had a set of those back in the day as well. :)

  10. Trent - Many thanks for your response! I have tested the 5 wedge set up a couple of times on the range and with my launch monitor- gaps seem good as well as yardages. We shall see if this set up remains.

Still have the DCI ‘s - just a great iron!

    My best!

  11. I have AP3 irons, 3-P + 48 degree wedge. Before I got the 48 I played with Vokey SM7 50, 54, and 58 degree wedges. I will likely continue with that setup but I wanted to have the 48 in case I decided to drop the 50 from my bag.
