I’m needing to add a long club to my set up but need to drop a club as I’m carrying 14 and I’m carrying 5 wedges I use the 718 ap1 irons so I have 4- pw & 48wedge from that set and then 3 vokeys 52 with 8* bounce which I use from 90 yds in and around the greeen, 56 with 10* and 60 with 7*, i never really use the 56 unless I’m in a bunker,so I was thinking of buying a 54 with 10* of bounce and doing away with the 52 & 56 I have been quoted £109 for a new sm7 and they would take my two as trade ins (but I’ve never been happy with any trade price)and my wedges are mint is it worth while just getting the 52 bent to 54 and will it last? Thanks for any advice as usual.

There should be no issue bending the 52 to 54 and the club maintaining the change.
  3. I have the ap1 PW and then 3 SM7's 48 54 60 seems to work perfect.

The 48 wedge is a must with the pw being 43.

it really depend on how you hit them, I had mine changed from 56 and 60 to 54 and 58 in order to be consistent with the pitching wedge, and it worked well.

It does change the bounce by 1* for every degree changed......

This is an important point...it will increase the bounce which may or may not matter... IMHO

Thanks lads I got the 52 into 54 and the 56 into 58 today so I’ll see how I get with them over the wkend. I was gona buy new sm7’s ( mines are the sm5 model) but I’ll wait until nxt year when the new model comes out as mine are in mint condition anyway.

I'm considering the same with my 50.08 F & my 54.10 S by having them bent to 52/54. I know the bounce will change by 2 degrees, but will the extra degree of bounce really make that much difference.

The bounce does make a difference. Less bounce = easier to hit off firm turf. More = better results on soft lies.

So why not bend the 56 to 54? If it is S grind, it would be 54-08.

I’ve been advised by my local pro not to alter the lofts on my Vokey’s, because as it affects the bounce it would also cause issues with turf interaction.
  12. In the past, whenever I've had Vokey wedges adjusted for loft I've always done it by making them weaker. That adds to the bounce and I'm always happy to have as much bounce as I can get.

For a long time I played with a 54-degree bent to 55 and a 60-degree bent to 61. In both cases the starting point was a Spin Milled (and then SM4) which had a decent amount of bounce but I was really happy to get one degree more.

So I would modify your pro's advice to say only adjust them for loft when the bounce change agrees with you. For me that translates to never bend one stronger but some people don't like as much bounce as I do (for instance I play the 50.12F rather than 50.08F in my gap wedge, most people prefer the 50.08F).

    48-54 60 is a good setup.
