I am hoping someone will be able to help me with bounce, grind and lie choices for 52° and 60° SM series Vokey wedges.
I've been gaming Tommy Armour Silver Scot 845 Irons since 2001 and the set includes a 48° PW, 56° SW and 60° LW. Anytime I'm inside 85 yds I hit my 56° SW with full confidence and absolute consistency. I have NEVER been able to get any consistency or good results with my 60° (it was so bad that I gave it to a buddy but then I just recently got it back and have been playing daily this year and starting working with it again for about the past month and the thing is literally costing me strokes every time out).
I am definitely keeping my 56° SW but I am looking to add used SM5 or SM6 Tour Chrome Vokeys in 52° and 60°. The course I'm a member at has hard and tight lies right around the greens all over the place so I'm thinking a 52° SM5 F-Grind with 8° bounce is what I'd like to try specifically in those situations and then I'd like to add a nice 60° for softer lies. I also occasionally need to hit gigantic flop shots over trees. I've successfully executed multiple beautiful flop shots so far this year with my 56° Tommy Armour SW but I can't hit the same shot with the same 60° to save my life. I'm looking for a nice Vokey 60° that will be consistent but also versatile enough so that I can rely on it for flop shots when I need them.
My best playing partner says I tend to have a shallower sweep when I chip closer to the greens as I do like to squat down at address the same way as when I hit all my other shots. I don't totally clean sweep/pick at the ball (I do hit down and get under it, just not with huge divots) and I am fully confident in taking full swings with these clubs when necessary. I just had torn Achilles surgery this past December so I'm still not able to put my full weight on my left foot and the ball forward in my stance yet but I'm getting there. One major problem I've had with my Tommy Armour 60° is that when I'm just off the green, often times when it comes out it's super low and screams across the green off to right. I NEVER have this issue from the same distance and chipping stroke when I use my Tommy Armour 56° (I had a walk off hole out with it yesterday from 40 yrs off the green).
Can anyone help with recommendations for what my best options in grind and bounce for an SM5 or SM6 Tour Chrome in 52° and 60°? Also with lie adjustment, is that something that can be adjusted after purchasing the club if I feel like trying to go 2° flatter may help my wedge game? Not sure if it matters but I'm around a 5-8 handicap (I've been shooting mid 30s with consistency lately on our Par 33 9 hole shorter distance wise but with challenging greens layout).
Thanks so much for any help or recommendations that you would be willing to provide!!!
