The sand wedge in my most recent set (couple years old) is an SM7 54.14F bent one degree weak and two degrees flat. It has an AMT Tour White S300 shaft to match my irons. One of my favorite wedges I've owned but the grooves are completely shot.
So I recently acquired an SM8 54.14F bent one degree weak and two degrees flat. It has the stock DGS200 shaft but otherwise is exactly the same specs as my SM7. And there really isn't much difference in a AMT Tour White and Dynamic Gold wedge shafts in terms of weight or flex.
The SM8 just isn't working. No idea why. After about 6-8 rounds I just can't get dialed in on full shots and it's not getting the ball out of bunkers as easily as the SM7. Anyone else find it a difficult transition from SM7 to SM8?
Visually, the two clubs look different behind the ball. I can't say exactly what but it's something about the way the leading edge transitions to the toe or maybe the shape of the leading edge. Something like that.
It's a puzzler and kind of frustrating. It often takes me a lot longer than 6-8 rounds to get used to a new wedge but I was hoping with *exactly* the same specs this transition would be easy. I'm about ready to just live with the worn-out grooves on my old wedge for a few more months.
